I believe that once we experience something in our past, it becomes a part of subconscious memory. I do not think that it has to haunt you though in a negative manner. Nightmares can be based on many things, T.V. Stress, Diet , etc. Relationships and phobias are manageable things that do not have to haunt. You can turn them into positive situations once you truly understand that it takes various situations to shape us into the individual that we become. Use your past to get on a path to knowledge based upon what you have learned from these experiences and what you can do for yourself for the future.

most often past experiences, especially relationship issues are hard to forget or get over. emotions always pay a major role in driving our actions all through once lifetime. though it is hard to move on, having a rational viewpoint always helps. in certain issues, we should act based upon rational thinking. then past won't haunt as you put it.

if we let past experience overpower us, we will ultimately be the losers. i loved a girl, madly...truly and deeply. after so many years i realized that wallowing will not help me at all. it is i who is losing out on everything in life and not her. i thought if i still stick to the past, i will miss out on the beauty that the present offers me.

i know how love and relationships actually are. it's hard to get over past experiences. there were days when i used to cry and lonely nights went by without any hush, but i realized that i will not GAIN anything out of it. i realized that i spoiled my life all these years. this experience is precious to me and it will always be. that does not mean that i HAVE to stick on to it and forget/ ignore what present and future has in store for me. i listened to my mind and here i am FREE and ready to fly. i feel like a bird unchained. out of the ashes rising a new being just as the Phoenix.

mind you, i am a romantic a hard core emotional guy. someone said i was hopelessly in love. the experience of love fetched me immense joy, satisfaction and meaning ultimately. but this wallowing did nothing to me but pain and heart brokenness. i moved coz i was not progressing in life, human beings should always evolve...move ahead in life. explore new frontiers and experiences. experiences that will enrich lives and not destroy this gift of life.

about nightmares, they are a result of traumatic part events. until and unless we tackle the CAUSE for the nightmare, the issue cannot be resolved and true liberation will not come. i always believe in confronting the issue and not beating around the bush. no matter what, facing the music will help everyone. i faced my worst nightmares and i am a new man now. until and unless we try to identify and eliminate the root cause of the issue, the problem will remain insurmountable for all the days of life.

regarding phobias, now this is an interesting topic. to analyze the mechanism of phobia is fascinating. it all works in the mind of the individual. phobias are a most often irrational. it is fear of anything that we encounter. the fact that they are irrational itself should help us overcome the worst fears and phobias.

one theory in psychology states that phobias are learned responses. and this theory further states that any fear that is learned can also be unlearned. what matters is the will to overcome it. now phobia is a subjective experience. i may not fear closed spaces but the other person may fear it.

there are certain techniques like systematic de-sensitization that aids overcoming ones worst fear. i suggest seeking professional psychological help in this regard. we are human beings and we cannot be ashamed of our drawbacks. it's better to come out and seek help.

We are accountable for all our actions. Wrong actions bring misery and suffering to untold number of people. Even if we are sorry for our actions, still, as per 'karma' we have to reap ten fold what we have sown. Only when repentance is full, and we have paid for our misdeeds, can we start on a new page. Till such time, we are haunted by nighmares and phobias.

Well, what I believe is that if you met a person, who is really, really annoying or negative to you, it is like a mirror of you. For example: Once you told someone they were a *****, and you ABSOLUTELY hate when anyone calls you that, then a very close friend or whatever, calls you one too, and you get really, really, pissed, you then, absolutely forget that you called your other friend a *****, and just think, how mean your close friend is. Seriously, how could he? Again, you have seen that somewhere haven't you? Another thing is that, every good or bad thing that happens, is another image of your personality, and the only way to fix it, is to try and fix yourself. And thats hard- I mean really hard, but it is very possible. I hope I am helpful 0_0!

"There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so" William Shakespeare
"All that we are is the result of what we have thought" Buddha

It all is about if you have learnt from your past experiences. You also need to make the most of any situation no matter what could/would happen.

suppose your life is a story book so whatever happened in the beginning will reflect the climax right ?!! but in a way it's good if we remember past failed relationships ,nightmares n bad stuff happened to us so that we could learn something remember it n use it to save our butt from anything wrong.

You wanted to be good but could not because of temptation.Learn from the past but there is no use getting haunted because you can not erase your past.
