I was just watching Dog the Bounty Hunter on A&E and it occured to me that he was not a law enforcment officer. How then can he deal with everything from meth lab to marijuana cultivation cases without any police internention? Specificaly, how can he deal with busts involving illegal substances without the police being present?

I understand and agree that DOG is, in most cases doing as service to America, but the most important part of the question is what laws, etc allow him to do this, specificaly, what gives a non-government emloyee the authority to both handle and destroy legal evidence that could have otherwise been used to lock up the "suspect" for 20+ more years.

Unfortunately there is a loophole for bounty hunters that dates back to the old wild west days and because of it making things easier on the police, has been left on the books. Now if they bust in your house unannounced in some states such as Texas, you can shoot them. Your home is your castle in Texas, so they are a little more careful here. They do have to have a license and be registered, but that is it. They don't have to read you your rights as they are not a law enforcement officer. They are coming after you because you jumped bail, or failed to appear and your bond was revoked.
I have to agree with the above posters on the crack pipe. The crap is pure poison. Good for him on that. At least it wasn't the police finding it. Here in Texas, it is a felony. It doesn't need to be on the streets anyway.

That is probably the only good way to do this destroyed drugs never hit the street. We can't say as much with the seized items by police.

As it is not yet evidence, the cops are not there remember, he can destroy anything he feels is hazardous to him, he only deals with bail jumpers and such, all he needs to do is bring the body in and he gets paid for that. As for the ice pipe, more power to him, break 'em all.

Because DOG can do what he want! HE'S DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER, I love that show. He can do it because he is stopping the drugs from being used and sold on the streets to kids. I'm sure the cops are involved with some of it but it's just not shown on the TV. that would take away from the greatness of DOG and his hot son! And the rest of the great crew!

I disagree with dog on somethings. He should book the guy or girl with whatever drugs they have on them. I understand he makes them break the ice pipe as a way of saying "no more ice" but if they served a longer jail sentence then maybe they would learn.

He's picking them up to prevent HIS $$$$ from bieng taken by the courts. He's a Bail enforcement agent for his company. as long as they get turned in Who cares what they had on them. He's actually trying to help them by making them destroy that crap.
