A not wealthy class mate of mine is sad because his girl friend wants it to be celebrated !

I think Valentine's day used to be a day when you send someone you secretely admire an anonymous card. However, someone (probably a florist, restaurant owner or card manufacturor) thought they could earn more money if they made it a national day for all lovers. And the people fell for it, sending useless postcards, buying flowers just because they "have to", going to overpriced restaurants without feeling like it...

I agree with your classmate, to do something nice with your girlfriend it shouldn't be necessary to spend a lot of money, and it doesn't need to be on that particular day.

then christmas should not be celebrated as well.
I agree. Cant we just be happy every day, and without buying presents ?
But then, girls love presents, right ? And they love present on any other ordinary day as well, right ?
So you can see it either way, For some its just an opportunity to go together to the cinema, or like christams is an opportunity to bring the family together on one table.
To bad, that VAlentines day its not big enough to have a day off from my job - THAT would be the best feature.
