A while ago I was arrested for theft and criminal damage from my old landlord. This was obviously not true, but my partner and I had to go to court. This was a horrendous few months, however the outcome was the case was dropped as the prosecution could offer no evidence. Will I now have a crimal record ?

Thanks again everyone. I was really worried as I have applied for a new job in a care home and had to complete a police disclosure. I have never ever been in trouble with the police in my life until this unfortunate incident. I have been offered the job, subject to my police check so obviously I was really worried.

Since the criminal complaint against you was dropped or dismissed by the court for lack of evidence, you were not criminally liable for the offense filed against you, however your name was recorded to have been criminally sued but there is no convic tion meaning to say that there is no record of c criminal act you have done and you were made to be cleared of such offense.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

You go to your local courthouse and go to county records office and they will have computers open to public to search records by name and birthdate. If you dont see the computers open to the public to search records ask the clerk there where in the building they are located. You enter your first and last name and your birthdate and hit the search button and wahlah theres what ever record they have on you past and presant open or closed and the status and any actions still pending. The only way to get them taken off is after 10yrs you pay for the papers to file to expunge your records and thats how you do it here in calif anyway.
