Because there has always been a double standard when it come to sex and virginity. Female "must" remain pure, whilst males "must" go forth and procreate. I personally believe that both guys and girls should stay virginal until marriage.

I think that it is a double standard, because most women don't judge a man on whether he is a virgin or not. I think that the importance that is attached to a tiny useless piece of membrane is ridiculous! A hymen can't tell you what kind of heart or mind someone has.
On the other hand, there are fellas who think that anyone who remains a virgin after, say 21 years of age, is "emotionally stunted" (I quote!) and/or unintelligent. I don't know if they think having sex just miraculously makes you emotionally mature and gives you extra brain power!
The decision to remain a virgin doesn't even have to have anything to do with religion or waiting for Mr Right or anything like that. It could just be because there are no men around that she feel attracted to. And why should a woman sleep around if she doesn't want to? It's not like a woman is going to get cobwebs down there!
Either way you take it, a woman is under a lot of pressure to conform to what society (and men!) thinks is right. I can tell you that it makes me pissed off sometimes. Why should the absence or presence of a hymen matter so much. It means nada - nothing! A non-virgin isn't a prostitute if she enjoys sex, and cheating and the like probably couldn't be farther from her mind. While a virgin isn't a pure and holy saint. A lot of guys say that they want to know that there children is theirs...but virginity isn't going to stop a woman sleeping around after marriage or whatever if that's what she wants to do.
I think that if a guy wants a virgin, he should be prepared to offer her the same (his virginity). It's only fair. In my personal opinion, a woman's choice to remain a virgin (or not) is her business, and she shouldn'r be judged for exercising her rights to her body. After all, we live in the 21st century, so freedom of choice should close the subject.....

Here is my view on it. I married a virgin and thought that was what i wanted. Now i am divorced from her. We had a lot of problems. What i am trying to say is- Is not always what we think we want is the right thing for us. There has been many woman that thought they had met the 1 for them and gave themselves to that person only to find out later that he was the wrong one. Should a man reject her because she is not a virgin any more? NO! She made a mistake. But a woman that will sleep with a man behind her husband / boyfriends back is something that men fear because most men don't want to raise some other mans baby. We can't get pregnant and make you think it belongs to you. But women can do it to us. That is why some men prefer virgins because they think that maybe since they haven't been passed from 1 guy to another that maybe they can trust that person not to try to fool them. There's more. To much to explain here. You can e mail me if you want. I will tell you the truth.

I think that it is a pointless exercise because in this day & age people have more freedom to make an informed decision on what they want. It is all about the choices you choose to make. When men say things like this they are being biggets as I personally think that they have never heard of equality. You would also have to look at the cultural background of a person as well. In South Africa & most African countries there are still some cultures which practice this form of tradition.
Does it truelly matter if a lady is a virgin or not. If you are going to be with a person does the past make any difference in the present or future I think not. Love & feelings are blind to what people percieve. Emotions are what truelly matter & not you where with in the past. If you continuesly dwell on the past you are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Because virginity check ups are available for females and not males. If there had been virginity check up for males too, they would have had to undergo it too.
There are a hell lot of women that respect virgin males more than the type of guy who goes around with every girl. Also there are a hell lot of women who woukld rather go for an experienced male
I know plenty of virgin males boasting that they have done it a quite few times just to show off (that they can do it and do it better).
Also there's another aspect that cannot be neglected. males donot prefer to be compared and females love to compare. Males fear if the ever girl had sex with anyone else she would compare her man with the ex and this could result in inferiority complex for the male.

Its a double standard that has been applied to women since the beginning. In general men define good as pure when it comes to a women sexual experience. That is why a girl is a ***** if she has slept around, and a guy is just being a guy. A man once told me something funny on the subject and he said Men are pigs, but they see women as the opposite of that, and when women have sexual experiences that mirror them its a turn off. I do not think it is fair that we are judged by different standards in general about of sexual history, but unfortuately that is what it is.

It is women who become pregnant and bear the child... if sex is seen as an exclusive act for procreation, the insistence on virginity is indeed valid. If procreation is seen as a by-product of sexual relationship, then there is no case for virginity nor is there any case for DNA test to establish fatherhood. Since adultery is becoming more and more common these days, I wouldn't be surprised if a day comes when the man insists on DNA test before accepting responsibility towards his children!! Nature is indeed highly biased against the female sex.... it should have equally divided the responsibility of getting pregnant and bearing the child between the male and the female sex!! It is mother Nature that has enabled the male to be so blatantly demanding and dominating!!

Dear Chaitali, How are you? It feel me that your parents are looking groom for you, and you came across this hard and bad truth.
As per my personal experience only Orthodox are asking for virginity.
Actually our Indian culture is not ready to accept single mother, which is very common in USA and Europe. As per my knowledge after the monthly cycle of female the virginity is return in normal condition. Only sex worker or ***** can be differentiate from virgin or non-virgin.
But this is our duty and our parents and guardian duty to help girls to select a good groom as life partner by checking his past history records of flirts and girl friend.

properly, once you've sex with her, then she's no longer a virgin anymore, is she? I hate this stupid question. in case you cost virginity in a lady, you need to be a virgin your self. once you're searching for a virgin, you need to not take a virgin's virginity till you marry her and hence you need to not be in a position to look heavily at her intimate elements. in case you cost virginity, then you quite must be searching for someone of solid personality whom you think, and that believe is more beneficial major than no matter if she has an unbroken hymen.

You must blame nature or god who put this restriction on women and left the men free of it.
The virginity, periods, pregnancy, delivery, feeding the child, taking care of child etc. are such restriction on women all are by the ultimate Creator who has mad us like this. If you ask me, there is no answer to your question. It's life we have to live with it.
Not only women, but all female animals are bound to bear this and male just make them pregnant and run away. Only men are taking responsibility of their child and share it with women, as father.
I think only Arabs are considering this in their life to compensate women due to all responsibilities on her by nature. Their male make a house, furnish it with all necessities, pay dowry to girls parents opposite to Indians, appoint a house maid for her first and than they bring a women home as wife. Their women are not doing any work at home just waiting the husband at home.
