When you removed your bog wood did you change your filter as well? The tannins residue is probably trapped in the carbon in the filter. It is harmless however so that isn't your main concern right now.

Snails present mean the water isn't "poor quality"

Let the tank run, CLEAN THE FILTER and do a 20% water change.

Snails, if they are really bothering you, take a piece of lettuce and place it in the bottom of the tank. You may have to weigh it down. Let it sit over night. In the morning, it will be full of snails, you can just remove it from the tank. Do this until the snails are under control. (Or you can sit an pick them out one by one!)

Good luck.

It would seem like the Kori's have introduced a virus of some kind into your tank. They only thing to do is parcel water changes or maybe you should get advice from the local pet shop.I was going to say driftwood will do this also over time,it deteriorates but you say you have none.Maybe you should turn the gravel over and let that fliter then do a parcel water change may clear it up.Do you have an under gravel filter? If so it is time to clean the tank.

Completely empty the tank of all substrate, plastic plants, and decoration. Let everything sit out to dry for a few days. Then, rinse everything thoroughly in water scrubbing it all with a brush or sponge, including all walls, nooks, and crannies of the tank. Finally put it all together and once water is in it let it sit empty for a week.l Empty of fish I mean. If you see no snails by then and no strange colors it's safe to reintroduce your fish.

what filter are you running on it? how often are your water changes? what are your water test results? (specifially ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and pH). are there any fish in the tank at the moment?

bogwood leaches tannins into the water, these are harmless. it's always a good idea to soak bogwood for a week or two in hot water to help get rid of this. but some people like the tannins as it makes the tank more natural.

i gather you've got pest snails? ramshorns, pond/bladder or malaysian trumpet. the best way to rid yourself of these guys is to remove every one you find, check under leaves everywhere for eggs and smoosh them. it's hard work, but i've found the chemicals you get just kill the snail, leaving them to rot in your tank, and fish to eat them are no good if your tank isn't healthy yet!

did you cycle your tank prior to adding fish? if not, you've got new tank syndrome and your tank isn't ready for fish, it takes about 2-4 weeks to complete, and fish going through that will die from ammonia burns.

let us know your water test results. and how you clean your tank also.

snails are easy to remedy with a clown loach or puffer. puffers don't get along with other fish very well though. if there is nothing living in the tank you can get snail killer at the pet shop or walmart.

I think you need a new filter or maybe you need to get more filter rocks. It's probably old and isn't keeping the water fresh for a long period of time. When the water is clean, then the fish will not die.

Maybe you need a bigger filter, you know, with more water cleaning capacity, depends on how many gallons does your aquarium hold. Ask somebody in the pet shop. Or buy a ph balancer and check the water, maybe it's too alkaline.

I have 2 reasons. 1-You might be feeding your fish to much, cut down on the amount you are giving him/her.
2-You might simply have bought a faulty fish [WITH BAD POO.]

If you discover your fishes poo is a colour other than white of brown KILL IT by putting the fish in a bag with water.then place it in the freezer this way it will die without pain.

Maybe you give too much food to your fish. The food that your fish didn't eat can make the water cloudy and it's not good for the fish if they are too full.

Try to give them less.
