Supply and demand play a big role. There were no major hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico this year, oil continues to be pumped freely in the OPEC nations, and until late January the winter was mild in the Northeast, a region which uses heating oil for warmth, and as much as it can be there is less fear of the supply being interrupted. The $0.06 rise is due to colder temperatures in the Northeast and bad news out of Iraq. It amazes me that people give the US president blame or credit for economic things far beyond his control whether it be Clinton or Bush.

In the summer of 2006 gas prices were over $3.00 a gallon. Yes, China is growing at 20% per year... and they still are, so that was not the reason for $3/gal gas. The reason is because OPEC sets the price of oil...until China decided to buy a huge amount of oil from non-OPEC sources. The US oil interests control OPEC and OPEC controls oil prices.... but they realize that if the price gets too high, the US just MIGHT get more oil-efficient and then they will be cutting off their noses to spite their faces. No, they do not care about the environment. I guess they will move to the space station when there is no more air on earth. Get your tickets early. Did you ever wonder why we spend so much on space toys when at the same time they tell you we don't have any money for schools, roads, or environmental jobs? Maybe they are not telling the truth???? Read Zinn's History of the US, if you think you can handle the truth.

They havent. Actually theyve risen about $.06 a gallon here in Mesa, AZ.
Thats the SOUTHwest, and we have some of the laxest air quality standards (hence lower gas prices) of almost any western state.
Gas here was $2.17 per gallon (Sam's Club, 2-10-07) lowest grade unleaded.
It is now $2.24 this morning, same location, that's a 7 cent increase in 5 days. Where do YOU Live?

They have basically been falling for a year now. In fact some democrats complained that the reduction was GW's friends lowering it to support repblicans in Nov of 06. it was on a gentle glide down with some basic few sent dips and rises.

Have they? Cynically, I would say that it's probably to shore up the Presidents falling approval ratings and to restore a bit of bounce to the economy.
I guess they feel bad about gouging us after all
