I fell down my stairs yesterday and banged up my left arm pretty good. I went to the hospital and they x-rayed it and said it wasn't broken, but then put me in this wonderful splint and told me to leave it on until I could follow up with my doctor.
The splint is making me nuts!!! If nothing is broken why would they do this?

maybe you have a moderate sprain and thats why he put a splint, postmold or temp cast to help immobilize your arm to relieve the pain and promote healing, and you should always follow up with an ortho doctor ( bone doctor ) to follow up and make sure you are healing properly. You can't see a strain or a sprain but you surely can feel the pain maybe you were in pain and the splint will help decrease the pain

your left arm is in weak condition and is more likley to break than when its fine. its to make sure that your not straining your arm and protecting it from the environment , trust me they are good to have. i sprained my anlke, and i just put a tensor around it, 2 days later it broke, i dont even know how, i was just walking.

It's to immoblize the injury. They want to immoblize it so you don't injure it any further. Also, it can be used for compression, which is very important in treating injuries.
