It does not have to be present outside of you (such as in your underwear). Pardon the graphic talk, but you may have to check your cervical mucous by inserting a finger inside the vaginal canal, possibly as far up as near the cervix and that is perfectly normal.
Good luck to you - I was conceived on clomid!

Wow - I could have written this question! Are you being monitored by your doctor for cervical mucus? I took Clomid for 6 months and my doctor - just an ob/gyn - never bothered to check (or check via ultrasound for how Clomid was working for me). I was frustrated and switched to an RE, a reproductive endocrinologist and fertility specialist, and he was able to determine in 2 seconds that Clomid wouldn't work for me. He said that for many women, Clomid negatively affects their cervical mucus and sperm cannot possibly make it to the egg. Please ask your doctor to find out if the same thing isn't happening to you. Also - if your doctor isn't monitoring you at all, that's a problem - I'd seek out a specialist! I'm now the proud mom of twins...

Love the description!! :0) I think it is better if it is clear, thick and plenty of it. But just because you cant see it doesnt mean it isnt there. I have been on clomid cycles where I thought it was a crap cycle (no mucus, no ovulation pains) but the doctors have said it was a really really good cycle?? Charting your temperature along with using an ovulation kit may help also.
