Given the age and size of the universe, shouldnt we have been visited by LARGE numbers of extra-terrestrials by now?

I've always thought this, too. I mean, where is all the life out there? It's there. We just don't perceive it, I think. On the other hand, maybe it's like in the beginning of the movie, "Men In Black" and something like dragonflies are actually creatures from somewhere else. Another possibility is visiting life is too small for us to notice, especially viral. And, life that reaches a certain understanding of the fundamental laws of physics may "ascend" in someway. I've often wondered if dark matter might hold ascended energy lifeforms. Anyway, my mother was convinced that aspen trees were aliens. Dead convinced. : )

And given the size of the universe which stretch billions, trillions and more, lights years apart, i doubt they will even come here in our life time.

Who knows if there are any? Besides the universe is to vast to say that they will even come to Earth. Earth is like a needle in a haystack, or worse.

Most things you see about extra-terrestrials on earth tend to be fake. None have even being prove to be real. Human error are really common. Also people who claim to have being abducted may have dreamed about it. There's really no proof. Unless they somehow still have that probe up there anus.

Intelligent extra-terrestrials haven't being discovered yet, so you cant assume there are, yet you cant assume there aren't any at all. Anything possible out there. Only time will tell.

Anyways thats my 2 cents

This question is known as "The Fermi Paradox".

Consider--If the universe is much older than it needs to be to support several generations of intelligent species, and it is certainly large enough for many to exist at the same time, and assuming life and habitable planets are a natural occurrence given time, energy and building material... then "where are they?" as Enrico Fermi asked about 50 years ago.

Seems like they should have visited us or we should be easily able to pick up their radio broadcasts.

Many books have been published and many theories advanced to answer the question, but I suspect that interstellar distances are just so huge and travel so difficult it keeps us apart.

Other ideas; perhaps we ARE being visited (UFO's), perhaps we are being observed and they ARE all around us but we are just so primitive we cannot detect them, or maybe we are in some sort of "wildlife preserve" set up by extraterrestrials so that we are not interfered with until we mature, or perhaps we are such a savage and dangerous race we have been quarantined (...and will soon be exterminated so the threat is eliminated?).

Perhaps as races grow older and survive killing each other off they discover immortality and don't go exploring or contacting anymore as its just too dangerous; they are the "Lotus Eaters" and sit around all day plugged into their computers and contemplating their navels.

You've just said it, think how incredibly LARGE, I mean monstrous, our universe is. Our world may seem big to us, but it is like a grain of salt, or even less , compared to the universe. Say your at the ocean. Think of every single grain of sand there is. Picture just ONE of the grains being earth and all the rest is everything else being the universe. Don't you think it'd be a tad bit difficult to specifically find EARTH? And if life has came on earth, who knows what kind of life it may be? What it may look like? We don't know anything as of now. <3.

And, having checked around your neighborhood, you haven't found any...Right? Hmm-m-m.

Sounds about right to me also.

LARGE numbers...Ummm-m, I am pondering that number right now (thinking hard about that). What do you call a large number?

Take for instance the distance to the nearest Star (not the Sun). Last time i checked the distance to the nearest Star (not the Sun) was 4.4 Light Years. Other stars range in distance from us from 4.8 Light Years to 50,000 Light Years distant (within the Milky Way Galaxy). Now if it were possible to travel at the speed of light (which it is not) our closest neighbor might take 4.4 years to get here and our fartherest neighbor might take 50,000 Years to make the trip one way (at the impossible speed of light).

Do the math...The fastest thing "we" have going now tops out at about 50,000 Miles Per HOUR; not per SECOND.
Light travels at 186,000 Miles per SECOND. So in reality, visitors from the nearest star will take maybe 30 millions of years to reach Earth on a one way trip. gosh, those guys are gonna be long dead by the time they get here...probably just be a bunch of dust in a metal can...
Try the math and you will see for yourself...

My theory is that alien civilizations face the same challenge that we do: By the time they've developed sufficient technology for interstellar travel, they used up too many of their natural resources in getting to that point to actually make the journey.

I heard something about the aliens not wanting to disturb us just yet, they know that if they appear to us in mass, we will more than likely (obviously) lose our minds, because most people are not believers and something like that would be too much for most people to handle...think about it, it would change a lot of things, it would literally change our minds. (or blow our minds, pick one)

Because we are considered the lowest rank species in the universe. Look at ourselves and our doing, what have we done to ourselves todate?

We never show ourselves humans are too nuts.
When you see what they do to each other, imagine what they would do to us.
In the mean time we are around, and,by the way we can see through clothes.

Who says we haven't? We are just very subtle about our presence.
I will say that your gravity makes it difficult for us to maintain our true image.
