If you are a British passport holder with no dependents you may be eligible for a working holiday visa (subclass 417). This can be applied for via the Department of Immigration website -- http://www.immi.gov.au or by posting an application to Australia House.

The best way to apply is by going to Australia house that is located in London. the web sites are good but they don't give you all the info and you can't ask any questions that you have. use them as a guide but make sure that you speek to someone in person they know all the little things that are not on the web sites.
Sometimes you are able to get the visa while you wait depending on wether you have all the correct paperwork and you have no criminal background. if you do you may not be allowed in.
hope this helps

I applied direct through www.immi.gov.au last year - online application is easy to complete. I received confirmation of my visa being granted within 24 hours.
Its as quick and as easy as that - goodluck!

There is a "Young persons Working Visa" which is valid for (it has now increased I am told) 2 years.
This is specifically designed to encourage young people to come to Australia on working holidays and perhaps stay here.
Otherwise there is actual immigration.
In all cases go to this site
www.immigration.gov.au
otherwise you are wasting your time and effort on a site such as this.
