What have you found to be the best way to meet the band?

I've met quite a few; I've had dinner with a couple of bands. I was just looking for some new, hopefully inventive, yet successful ways to meet "the band" without putting them out or off. I'm a photographer. I found this is pretty much the best way. Not the coolest, though. What have you done?
