Well, since this question is in "Television" and not a music category, I would go with Chris Farley.
He was the best funnyman of his time and "Tommy Boy" is a modern classic.
If you were talking about music, I would definitely go with Hendrix - he is the original guitar god and redefined the instrument's role and capabilities in modern music.
