You can look on eBay for the same item and see what it's selling for, but if it's really rare, get it appraised. I've listed a website below that does online appraisals for $10.00 and up, depending on the price of the book, or you could probably find an appraiser in your area who could do it in person. Whatever you do, I would try to get at least two opinions, just to make sure the person isn't trying to swindle you.

Try eBay, and you can compare notes with the people selling their books. I have sold a lot of books from bargain bins (which I bought for a marginal sum of money), and they sell quite a lot in eBay. I don't know with other booksellers though.
