The first in the series, the original, ignoring all of the others (pretend they don not exist).

I think Rocky is a very good film, very gritty but heartwarming at the same time- Stallone is playing a thug with a heart, the sort of guy you really could bump in to walking down the street. He's a drop out, a bum, given one chance at making a name for himself against insurmountable odds...and he goes for it, battling through all the blood and guts and hanging in there just long enough to pull through.

I think the underlying moral of, and feel to, Rocky, has been a great inspiration for me and it's just a shame the first film is marred by the sequels (perhaps excluding the latest). As a stand-alone I think it is a worthy contribution to modern popluar cinema.

Your thoughts? Thanks!

Quite agree Rocky is an absolute classic. Sure it isn't intellectualy clever enough to be applauded in the broadsheets or by many critics but as an uplifting movie it cannot be beaten. The story of the working class guy who gets a lucky break and by sheer grit and determination makes the most of it.

Stallone did a great job acting, writing and directing it even the music has become a classic over time. Still feel the need to break the weights out now whenever I see/hear a decent training montage.

It is recognised as an all time classic.
It rubs shoulders at the top half of lists that include Casablanca, The Third Man and Citizen Caine.
I thought this was common knowledge.

Admittedly Rocky ranges from 10-20 in the list, whilst the three I mentioned are consistently 1, 2 and 3.

The first Rocky was a truly great flick...it won the best picture Oscar with Stallone as a relative unknown at the time.

The rest are gratuitous efforts to take our money.

Its definately one of my favourite movies and Stallone is an awesome actor in it!! Hard to believe when you consider his body of work there is only really Rocky and Cop Land where you can say theres a damn fine actor!! I haven't seen the new Rocky but I get the feeling I'm going to really like it!

Surprisingly, I have never seen a Rocky movie all the way through. Just snatches here and there. Seriously! However, I will make a point of watching 'Rocky 15' when he makes it. And he probably WILL!
