hello all, i work with a fella who i used to get along with, now i want to seriously punch his lights out. he brown nosed his way to a higher paid position but is anything but capable of doing a better job than me. this may seem like sour grapes but that isn't the case i just want to be left alone to do my job. and hes interfering in my work. i do a hard dirty job, and have done it longer than him. imagine being told on how to correctly shovel rubble after you've done it for 15 years!. i've always believed in enjoying work, not horseplay but liking the feeling of a hard days work. today i've feigned the flu because i really cannot stand him anymore, and hes affecting my mental health. i don't want to leave for another job because jobs are hard to come by. has anybody any suggestions? please. i should point out he drinks during working hours and stinks of booze everyday. many thanks.

edit: our boss is never around, my other workmates want to put him straight about his attitude. but he cannot be trusted anymore and we all know he would drop us in it even by lying.

I'm sorry for your situation & I can relate. Not from my own experience but from my husband's.
People like him generally tend to "hang themselves" so to speak. Waiting for that to happen is difficult though. Where is the person who gave him the promotion? And where is that person's boss? How do your other coworkers feel about him? Would it be possible for you to get others to bring his actions to the attention of his boss?
Just hang in there. I know it's bad enough having to get up & go to work everyday, but when something is going on like that it makes it even worse. Wish there was something I could do to help.

ooi my sweet Q&A buddy tell you I empithise there are so many backstabbers out there you say there are others that know this and feel this way too well for one sweety if his a boozer during work hours he will be caught if not by smell by his own neglegance its called patience my friend try to hate all you like but from the inside don't show or even reflect this to others as they could point fingers if you know my meaning also I am a great believer in karma and he will get his day promise just patience and you knowing your work and enjoying it shouldn't have to leave good luck I do understand the anger you feel and am sorry for your situation would have suggested all you and others to gang up majority rules however you never really know where you stand with the others that feel the same way not so... hoping my thoughts helped a little

If everyone else has noticed his attitude, he doesn't have a leg to stand on. It will his word against everyone else's. You need to get together, keep a log of his antics, and get the best spokesman to approach the boss. If he is difficult to get hold of, has he a secretary or right-hand man? If not, write him a letter, or e-mail him, and keep a copy. If that doesn't work, has he a boss?

Couple of suggestions:
Get someone else to ask him if he can save his empty cans cos they're collecting for a charity fund raising effort - then string 'em all up, & daub 'em over where he sits / works, & then invite his boss to come & view his contribution for his day's pay...
Give him a nick-name like Mr. Boozy-Sleazy or something much more descriptive... & send him cards anonymously, through the internal company mail???

Short of looking for another job it sounds like the only option is for you is to get your other co-workers and talk to the boss. I know you said he's not around but you have to get a hold of him cause he's the only one that will solve this problem. It sounds like you want this guy fired and I don't blame you but you have to take it to your boss. Good luck!

Does he drive.............phone the police and have him arrested for drink driving!
Have a meeting with everyone there and everyone can tell him, he cant fire you, as he would have to fire everyone!
failing this, dig a bigger hole and let your imagination run free !
