I'm not a teen but I have been and I have two kids, one of whom is very untidy! Here are my ideas:
I have a nice good-sized basket/hamper on top of my drawers where I keep bits and pieces. It's lined with fabric so it looks nice but you can't see the clutter so it looks neat.
If there's a space between the bedhead and wall you can fit more storage, eg: a box, in there and it will be hidden.
You can get nice under-bed storage units with wheels and lids - more hidden storage! Or just use a shallow box or crate.
Any time there is mess on the floor, sort it into piles. It is then easier to put away, but if you don't get around to it, at least it's neater!
Spend a minute to always put clean laundry away immediately. It doesn't take long and makes a big difference.
Declutter - be harsh and get rid of things you don't need! Best stuff - eBay it and get paid to tidy up! Next best - donate to charity. Rubbish - bin it. I said BE HARSH! This includes clothes, shoes, toys, everything!
I use two matching gift boxes in my kitchen to hide clutter. They sit on top of each other on the counter. One holds papers I need in the near future (the rest are filed), the other holds bits 'n' pieces.
Make the bed, it makes a huge difference to the appearance of the room. So do light and fresh air - open the curtains and window.

Clean it real good and find a home for everything. Then every morning when you get up then do a quick swipe around the room before you ever leave. Make your bed as soon as you get out of it and then it will be clean all the time. Good luck!

take 5 minutes before you go to school or before bed and pick up after yourself. just get a hamper with lid for your clothes and if you have alot of clutter try getting various organisers for your thing. when i was a teen my room was always messy because i had no strage other than my closet so stuff was all over the place assess your storage needs and then ask you rparents to buy it for you . i know that if my kid was making an effort to keep their room clean i would but whatever they needed to help them out.

Make a habit of when you do clean it up that when you use something, put it back instead of leaving it on the closest surface. If you put things back where they belong rather than leaving them out in the open, you won't have a mess any longer.

Develop the habit of putting things away instead of tossing them where ever. A few seconds of putting things where they belong when you are done with them saves hours of sorting and stashing later and avoids the mess of not being able to find what you're looking for.

When you do have time to really clean and organize your room.
Make three piles, one to keep, one to donate and one to store.
You need to take your time and decide what is important to you and what isn't.
Good Luck.
