First DO not use a sponge, all it does is soak up the foundation and ends up pulling off what you've put on.
To apply foundation, start from the centre of the face, dotting on to the cheeks and forehead and blending outwards, first making sure your fingertips or make-up are spotlessly clean. Gently blot the skin with a tissue to remove any excess product or surface oil. Never drag the skin if you are using your fingertips to apply cosmetics. Smooth foundation over the lips and eyelids to act as a base for lip and eye products. After smoothing on, moisten the fingertips and then work over the neckline to remove any signs of haphazard application.
Hope it helps x

The way that you will apply has to do with the result you want. If you want a thin, transparent layer for natural look you put some on the top of your one hand below your thumb and take little by little with your other hand or a soft sponge and apply gently, never forgetting to fade it down to the neck. If you want a richer layer for evening makeup- or better cover you should do the same but applying it with a foundation brush. Always end with a transparent powder to avoid unwanted shines!!!!

while using a liquid foundation, firstly make sure that it is water-based. take 2-3 drops of foundation and 2-3 drops of water-based moisturizer on ur palm.Mix them well and dot it on ur face. Then gently spread it into the skin making sure that there are no patches formed.Being water based, both foundation & moisturizer will percolate in the skin well.Than apply the blush-on & other make-up.
Other option of liquid foundation is using Cake foundation that can be applied with a sponge. But this needs a good hands on it...

You can use a sponge applicator. Apply a small amount of the foundation onto the applicator, and then spread it evenly over your skin or in necessary areas. If you're going to cover your whole face with the foundation, make sure you blend a little from your jawbone to your neck so that you don't have that "mask" look. If not putting it all over your face, put it in areas to contour and highlight your face. Light colors: (highlight- apply lightly to apples of cheek., browbone, under the eye, middle of chin, middle of forehead down bridge of nose, etc). Dark colors: (contour- sides of your nose, temples, hallow of cheeks, under chin, etc.) The highlight/contouring is not really necessary unless you're going to be photographed, or unless you simply want an even, defined look. =)

I put a bit on my two index fingers, then place it on my face where I feel its needed. As you put it one, try to do the same thing to both sides of your face, rub it on in the same place, in the same way, on both sides of your face. Dont put too much on either, too much can look horribly overdone. Put on only as much as you feel you need.

I put a dot on my hand and with my other hand, I put it on my face in dots. My head, cheeks, nose and neck. I like to smooth it out with just two finger.
