It is normal unfortunately!
With my last pregnancy I didn't have an appointment to see anyone until I was 11 weeks, and then I saw a midwife who took a history and nothing else, she told me I would have my scan around 12/13 weeks and to make an appointment to see her again at 16 weeks!!
It does seem a long time to wait inbetween appointments, if you have any questions/concerns then I would make a regular appointment to see your normal GP, most are happy to put a 'mother to be's' mind at rest.
Congratulations and good luck!

During your first trimester you visits to your gp/clinic are about once a month for a healthy pregnancy. After about 27 weeks you tend to see a Gp twice a week and then from about 36 weeks you see them once a week. But you can book an appointment with your Gp anytime you feel you need to see him or have any concerns.
you should be taking folic acid or a pregnancy formula which will have all the good things you and bub needs plus folic acid.
As for foods not to eat I was told to avoid-
soft serve ice cream because of bacteria
meats like salami
eggs that are undercooked
caffeine-including coke
fish, some fish contain mercury
tap water
Vitamin A supplements
Also when eating meat leftovers make sure to reheat well (because of bacteria)
you should also avoid medications that are unsafe, a common rule is unless it says "can be taken during pregnancy" don't take it.
Even something as harmless as nasal spray is bad to use during pregnancy. You should talk to your doctor about the do's and dont's
and congratulations

Yes, absolutely normal.
To be blunt there's not a whole lot they can do for you before this. If you insist on having an appointment and having them take your blood pressure, advising you what to eat etc then they probably can, but monitoring blood pressure early in pregnancy is no more necessary than monitoring it in a non-pregnant woman, and any advice beyond get plenty of rest, take a pre- natal vitamin, and eat 3 good meals a day (ie: common sense) would probably be unnecessary.
If you experience anything abnormal, like bleeding, cramping, severe dizzy spells, debilitating headaches or nausea to the point you can't even keep water down that lasts more than 48 hours, then call the doctor right away.
Otherwise, just take good care of yourself, avoid alcohol, don't smoke or take any drugs and enjoy the experience.

I'm not in the UK (I'm in the USA) but my OBGYN will not even see you until you are 8-10 weeks...not even to confirm the pregnancy...all they did was ask if I took an at home test...I said yes and they said come in once you hit at least 8 weeks.
You'll be fine until the 8 week mark, just be smart. Don't drink and smoke, etc.
It's pretty normal for women to wait until the 8 week mark to see a DR.

Well, I don't know about the UK, but here (in the U.S) some doctors do not see you until 8 weeks. There is not much they can do at this time. I hate the wait. Now I am 15 weeks and 5 days. They are seeing me every 4-6 weeks.

You know you can go buy prenatal vitamins at any drug store. You can also take 2 flintstones vitamins a day and its the same thing. They like it to be around 8 weeks because its easier to see the baby with the first internal ultrasound. And they also give a 2 week window that dates could be off and things like that. Just go to walmart or any other store where vitamins are sold and buy some prenatal vitamins!

Im not sure if they do things different in the UK, but when I found out I was pregnant I made an appt with my OB/GYN and got in right away and she started me on prenatals. My advice call your doctor again and ask them if they have an earlier appointment that you can go too. If not get over the counter prenatals and take them untill your doctor prescribes one for you. Congrats on the pregnancy!

I am sure every doctor and every practice is different, but I would probably shop around for a different doctor. Though the doctor could argue that many women miscarry in the first 12 weeks, etc. and there's not much they can do until after that point, yada yada.... It is my opinion that you should still be entitled to a consultation concerning your dietary habits, exercise, vitamins, stress level, emotional wellbeing, etc.
