Probably - but only because so many cheat and copy-and-paste stuff straight into their own work.
Does it help them to better understand the subject? Will it help them do their jobs better? Probably not.

Yes I do, and I agree that it forces them to read and learn about research methods.
There is a vast amount of information available to them that they would have great difficulty finding elsewhere which means they are able to complete a far more indepth assignment than if they had used conventional (or traditional) methods of research.
The downside of this is that the education sysyem is beginning to rely on this fact which means that any student who does not have constant internet access available to them is, in fact, disadvantaged.
The copy and paste problem has mostly been sorted as the teaching staff has access to the same resources and can actually pinpoint pieces of text that have been cut and pasted and even identify the website they came from and then penalise the students accordinglyThis means that the students now have to refine the art of gathering the information and rewriting it in their own words. This again is a good thing as it increases their understanding and use of language and ensures that they actually digest the information instead of simply passing it on without understanding it.

The internet is an ultimate, quick, easily accessible source of information on nearly everything. It's with no question that the internet can not only improve a person's grades if used as an educational resource, and give a person exceptional researching skills, but could one day replace school altogether.

It depends on if the student uses the right information on the Internet- Not all sites are accurate. Some of the information has just been placed on their without being checked. In addition, some people place their opinions out there as FACTS. Then, students use that wrong information in their work and it is marked wrong. Plus, not everyone cites the Internet correctly-- Loss of points there too.

Doing your own homework usually helps improve grades.
Of course it can help - the accessibility of information and speed at which you can research specific topics on the internet as opposed to searching through mountains of books at the library is an advantage.
At the same time, it is probably easier to be distracted .

I think it helps students get better grades, but I feel that the students are learning less since they are asking others for the answer instead of trying to do it (or find the correct answer) themself.
