Amsterdam is like any big city it can be dangerous. If you are a tourist and stay in the tourist areas then you should be fine. Just watch your stuff as like anywhere there are pickpockets. There is lots to see and do. Just use basic common sense. Millions of tourists visit Amsterdam and have a good time.

I dont think Amsterdam or any other city in the Netherlands is dangerous. I would be much more afraid if I went to Singapure, really! But once in Europe, pay special attention to pickpockets, but violent crime has a low rate usually.

A'dam is safe. The Red Light District has some dodgey characters but that's about it.

I'm 28yr old female and live in the center. I often ride my bike home from the bar or a babysitting job late at night and have never once felt unsafe. Yes there are pickpockets so just be aware of your belongings.
