i did this with my last 3 babies and have been lucky not to tear,
i swear by it,
i am also doing it with this baby and fingers crossed it will help again
my midwife recommends women try this.
there is no harm trying to do what ever you can to make child birth that little bit easier,
its not gross or sexual you do it in the privacy of your room, no one need know you are doing it!!
i also think olive oil is good wheat germ oil is also one ive heard to try

I tried massage for the 2nd birth having needed to be cut and stitched 1st time round. I don't know if it made a huge difference but I tore naturally and healed fine with no stitches, so maybe it did help. 3rd time ended up a section but I'd never even thought about massage anyway!

And just for the record, I would like to assure you that being cut and tearing is not sore as your body is going through so many other things that the pain is very much lying in other areas! I was told I was going to need to be cut 1st time so I said fine, then asked later were they not going to bother after all, and they said they'd done it about 5 minutes ago. And they told me I was tearing 2nd time but it was obviously blanked out as I felt nothing.

Always worth doing something if you think it's going to help.
Good luck!

I wish I'd done it before giving birth to my daughter - she flew out really quickly and I tore quite badly, so it might be worth doing it, if only to protect such a delicate area. Best of luck!

I think it is worth doing if you think it is going to help. Especially if you have had problems with previous deliveries.
I have heard Olive Oil is the best thing to use.

Hi, I think this is one of those things that is worth trying if you want to. I didn't do it but didn't tear or need to be cut with any of my babies. I think it has more to do with your own skin's natural elasticity but you've got nothing to lose by giving it a go if you want to!
