The sad fact of the matter is, is that the cartoon started out as something for younger viewers, predominantly in the teenager area. When the popularity of the show soared, they began to make it into a cartoon more for adults, with adult satire, critical thinking on modern problems, political innuendo, and even more fast paced than it originally started with.
It's no longer a cartoon for children. It's not even a cartoon for adults. It's merely a transport for those people who produce it to trumpet their beliefs to the world at large, with no real concern of retaliation.
People need to let cartoons go back to BEING cartoons, like the good old days....

People watch it because it is funny .. it is funny because we can recognise bits and pieces of our society in it ...(as in characters NOT the yellow skin and blue hair)
It is irreverant, it is politically incorrect, it is though a reflection..
we all know a Homer or a bart or a lisa .. hey some of us may even see ourselves in one of the characters.
Maybe it goes right over your head .. and you are unable to get it .. but that's ok we're all different

Because they take the P*ss out of everyone, every celebritity and every living thing.
If you get passed the yellow skin and drawn town and actually listento what the characters say you would actually understand why it is so popular!!!!

you couldnt be more wrong. the way the simpsons portrays politics and religion, its like an animated political cartoon.
i find it very amusing and entertaining (as you can tell from the name i use), and im sure many others like it too, otherwise, the simpsons wouldnt have aired for so many seasons.
now, shows like family guy and american dad? those shows are just cheap imitations

If you pay attention to the dialogue you will find wit, social commentary, and biting satire, not to mention the fleeting animation gags that flip by so quickly you almost need a stop action replay to catch them. I think it is one of the most intelligent shows on television. It definitely is not a kid's cartoon; they wouldn't get 90% of it.

It's timeless! It is a big social commentry, with a joke on the perfect American family. It's very relatable.
