What about fishes for your project about life cycles ?
You could start with the krill that is eaten by plankton, that is eaten by sardine, that is eaten by mackerel, that is eaten by tuna, that is eaten by dolphins or humans... and if fishes do not inspire you, maybe you could try grass that is eaten by springboks that are eaten by lions ;) ... It is just an idea... there are many others !
But if it is just a project to illustrate the life cycle of one animal family, why not trying wolves ? ... they are cleaver, live in family, have some habits...
Why not finding your subject at the zoo and study its practices ?

Or for a more common animal, the racoon is quite interesting:

The "classic" one to do is the Frog, its stages are easy to identify IE, spawn, tadpole, frog. You can mention the metamorphosis for tadpole to frog. There should be tons of information on the net for this, remember keep things simple.
Good luck

Why don't you do humans? Or... something interesting like starfish or jellyfish or whales? I know I'd find it interesting to read something like that... something that lives in the ocean. Maybe even seahorses?
