There are many good movies released every year and if you live within a reasonable distance to a big city you can see most of them. Here are a few good ones I've seen in just the last month or so: Blood Diamond, Apocalypto, Babel, Freedom Writers, and Rocky Balboa.

I'll agree that many of the mainstream movies released by the studios these days are crap. Part of the reason is movies in theatres have a shorter shelf life than in the past so they need to be releasing new product all the time or theatres would be playing to empty houses.

If you really are sick of the crap being put out by Hollywood these days, I would strongly recommend expanding your horizons and checking out some of the smaller films. They may not have big name actors, big budgets, or mind blowing special effects. But they usually tell a compelling story by relying on good old fashion story telling and solid acting.

Yep i agree, These so called actors dont help either, it's all visual now. Even the big budget films loose credibility apx 45 mins from the end!! Some of the best movies i have seen of late have been tv movies! I have a brilliant story for a good old British Robbery film with the emphasis being on the crims side, it would be more of film to be proud of than the pathetic Full Monty & 2 smoking barrels!! Which appears to be the u.k.'s so called good films? Just wish i knew someone who could help get this project looked at??

I think too that hollywood has become more of an industry that cares only what makes more money less than how good actually the film is. Especially also with overloaded superhero genre that everybody for some reason seems to adore. Watch Rocky Balboa, Blood Diamond, Dreamgirls, Casino Royale and Crank. Those are awesome films.

I go to the Cinema about once a week, some films are better than others, have you seen;-
The Queen,
In Pursuit of Happyness,
The Last King of Scotland,
Venus,
Blood Diamond,
Casino Royale,

All good films, also Night at the Museum was fun, if not great
But the worst film I have seen recently was The Holiday!, I spent most of the film looking for "continuity" gaffs, found quite a few!

well, to be frank... the industry has ALWAYS put out a lot of crap... just turn on any random cable TV channel at like 3 am and you will find a ton of horrible movies from the past...

but, when we look back on it.. you don't remember the bad movies, just the good ones, so it seems that movies used to be better... but you're really only comparing the past year to all the prior years, and that's just not fair...

I've seen several interesting movies over the past few months... I was really surprised with "letters from Iwo Jima"... I had heard it was good, but it was better than good... better than "flags of our fathers" but it was good too...

another interesting movie was "the science of sleep" which is gondry's newest film... it's pretty interesting and not like anything you've probably seen before...

I also saw "the fountain" which was also very different... not as good as the other two though...

I've also heard good things about "pan's labrynth" but I haven't seen it yet, but I want to...

there are some interesting movies out there, you just have to look past the surface...

THANK YOU - FINALLY, someone who is as saddened by the decline of the movie industry as I am....

The sad fact of the matter is, is that while people are still cranking out ideas in books and novels, they're not being turned into movies as much as they used to be - for one, there's just too many stories, not all of them are good, and the authors are tired of HOLLYWOOD changing their stories from the original idea into what they think people will go to see....

Noticed how the movie industry is cranking out so many Marvel Comics movies? They're running short of ideas that people will pay to come see - and so, in the words of the immortal (to my mind at least) Stan "The MAN" Lee.....

EXCELSIOR, TRUE BELIEVERS!

I agree.....Hollywood needs some good writers in a bad way...

I really enjoy all the "love stories"...it is a sure sign that one or the other is going to die...to Hollywood ...death = love or love = death...lol : )

I did like the movie ..I think it was called "Fun with Dick and Jane" ..it made me laugh...

and Enemy at the Gate it was about a Russian sniper,Vassili Zaitsev, during WWII ....

but really I haven't seen a movie that blew me away in along time....

There are loads of great films out there - we are in fact in some sort of rennaisance period. I would suggest not just trusting what the mainstream studios pump out. Go see Children of Men, or A Scanner Darkly. Go past the usual stuff that is over-hyped. You will find a rich vein of cinema out there and a whole new world of characters and stories!
