Hi, my husband and I finally decided to go to the Canary Islands, now my question is what would you recommend, Tenerife or Gran Canaria? We want hot weather, a place where there is a lot to see during the day, and of course some nightlife where there are crowd of our age (25 & 29). We are planning on staying 5 or 7 days. Any suggestions?

There's probably little difference in either Tenerife or Gran Canaria.
They both have good nightlife, plenty of young folks , sunshine and places to go. Either you stay in a busy area, or you stay outside for some peace and quiet and taxi in for a few euros.
For Gran Canaria, Playa del Ingles is the main hot spot, and for Tenerife, it's Playa de las Americas.
So the choice is kind of subjective - nobody can make it for you except yourselves.
One thing that will help is if you do some research on the regional attractions that you might like on the Spanish National Tourism ( OK Spain ) web site and check out accommodation alternatives with a reputable discount website. Since most of your money will be spent on your hotel or apartment and food , it's best to get this right.
So I've listed some helpful websites to get you atarted and don't forget to look at the pictures .... they tell a thousand words.

First of all: Good choice!! The Canary Islands are beautiful and you will meet very nice people there.
I know very well Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura as I have been working a couple of years between these 4 islands for a tour operator.
As you said, you are a crowd of young people who would like to relax and have some fun during the day and enjoy great night life I strongly recommend Gran Canaria.
Why?
1. Tenerife has many great hotels (especially in the south area) but out of the hotels night life is really poor and most of the visitors are older people and families.
2. Beaches: Gran Canaria offers better beaches than Tenerife. Many beaches in Tenerife are just stone beaches or artificial (so going into the ocean there is still the "stone problem". In Gran Canaria there are the famous dunes.
3. Shopping: Better shopping centers in Gran Canaria and the capital (Las Palmas) is really cosmopolitan for going out, shopping (excellent prices), etc
4. Many more different places to visit in Gran Canaria, great contrast between country side (green, mountains, etc) and the beaches in the south.
5. Better weather throughout the whole year and less clouds, less wind and less rain...
This is my honest recommendation.

In Tenerife you are able to do anything you feel like any time of the season thanks to its environment, organic environments and tourist infrastructure created for enjoyment for the family so this place is the right place for a good vacation and with hotelbye you will get it. In Tenerife are a lot of points waiting for you yourself to discover and one of those is in the south west coast of Tenerife. A place that is a spectacular position for seeing whales free in the ocean. As much as 26 species are located just down the coast, including baleen whales, killer whales, dolphins, pilot whales and actually blue whales. In Tenerife you may also see The Teide National Park. At 3,718 metres, Teide volcano is Spain's best peak and its two ecosystems produce the climb an event filled with contrasts.

The Canary Islands are known to be the sunlight heart of Europe! See this sunshine with hotelbye . Canary Islands provide a mild conditions and a variety of excellent natural attractions. Five of its seven islands have been declared a Biosphere Reserve, and the archipelago has four national parks. The most remarkable attractions in Canary Islands are the beaches because they are only great for soothing in the sun or enjoying water sports such as for example windsurfing and scuba diving. In Canary Islands you will also be impressing by the inner interest like: walking, pattern touring, climbing and also caving. Some of the very magnificent attractions of Canary Islands are: the volcanic scenery of Lanzarote, the beaches of Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria using their sand dunes, or the green forests of La Palma and La Gomera.

I have been to both and prefer Tenerife. But they both offer all you have requested. I dont think i would go back again to Gran Canaria, it was ok, but Tenerife better, and would most definately go back.

There's not much difference ...
Gran Canaria will be better for night life though and finding younger people.

Tenerife.
Hire a car for a few days and explore.
North is damp; south is hotter and drier.
