It is quite difficult to 'accidentally' buy something on ebay as you have to bid for it, and then confirm the bid! However, we all get auctionitis occasionally, and the best thing to do if you are concerned about your feedback is to contact the seller straight away. It might be best to say something like 'I found the same item cheaper in a shop before the auction ended and bought it and i hope you will be understanding that i don't want two items and be prepared to ask the second highest bidder if they would like it, or re-list'.
If the item has gone for a good price - to you - the seller will probably be justifiably annoyed, and may well get into an email argument with you. They cant force you to pay, but they can leave you negative feedback.
Ebay can be quite addictive, so stay away from it if you will get carried away.

You should contact the seller and try to explain the situation. If your seller gets convinced by your explanation, then you can mutually withdraw the transaction. In order to Mutually withdraw the transaction, seller will file Unpaid Item dispute.
Mutual agreement indication - while filing the Unpaid Item dispute, if the seller indicates that a mutual agreement has been reached with the buyer not to complete the transaction, eBay will ask the buyer for confirmation through an email and pop-up message.
-If the buyer confirms the seller's statement about mutual agreement not to complete the transaction, the buyer will not receive an Unpaid Item strike and the seller will receive a Final Value Fee credit.
-If the buyer disagrees with the seller's statement on mutual agreement, the buyer will not receive an Unpaid Item strike and the seller will not receive a Final Value Fee credit. The dispute will be closed immediately after the buyer responds and the seller will not be eligible to re-file an Unpaid Item dispute for that transaction.
-If the buyer does not respond to the email or pop-up message within seven days then the seller will be able to close the dispute. The seller will receive a Final Value Fee credit and the buyer will receive a strike.
To contact your seller:
You can contact any eBay seller by clicking on the "Ask seller a question" link on the item page. This feature enables you to send an email to a seller, even if you have not yet bid on or purchased the item.
Tip: Once you've won an item, the End of Auction email that eBay sends you contains the seller's email address. If you misplaced your End of Auction notice or other information from the seller after you win an item, you can always return to the item and contact them from the "Ask seller a question" link on the item page.
To see a list of all items you've won:
Click the My eBay button at the top of any page;
Click the ”Won” link in the left column;
Click the item. To contact the seller, click the “Ask seller a question” link.
If you cannot contact the seller by email after you purchase an item, or you don't receive a response, you should request their contact information and call them. Remember, in order to obtain this information about another member, you have to be involved in a transaction with them. To obtain your seller's contact information, please click the link below:

Not knowing whether you purchased a rolls-royce or a spare packet of tissues, offer to pay the listing fee and an extra amount for the inconvenience caused to the seller.
A huge apology is needed of course. All ebay buyers know that bids are legally binding, you've messed someone about alot and they may have needed the money quickly.
The sellers response is their choice. Ignoring them will make their situation worse so speak straight away and explain how you made this mistake - in a way that you haven't on here. Did your 6 year old child play with your pc?
Good luck! Rob

You will get bad FEEDBACK more than likely, so others will know you are a bad payer, if it was a private seller you might be able to say sorry and he will try to resell the item, but if it is a business then they have automatic set up th gives NEGATIVE feedback automatically if some one can't pay, these people also do the "We only leave feedback once you have" trick as well, which means if you do not say they are good you get bad feed back automatically.

You don't bid in the first place. No one accidently buys something. It's very frustrating when people do that and costs sellers time and money! Don't bid if you can't afford to buy!!!

it is hard to do this accidentally.
What you should do is just cancel your Ebay account. Because you will find yourself with some bad feedback.
You should not use Ebay, not when you obviously lack any organisational skills.

You are legally contracted to pay but it practice it is never enforced, I would offer to pay the seller's listing fees, for the inconvenience caused.

Explain to them the circumstances why you are unable to complete the transaction, i think though maybe as a good will gesture you can offer to pay for them to re-list as it was your fault.
Good luck. :)
