I have to say I think these people who do this and not the ones who are constantly threatening to do it, are at the end of their road and all seems to them as absolutely hopeless. My son committed suicide and I just talked to him 3 days before on the phone. I was in California and he was in Pennsylvania. We had it worked out so he was coming out to live with me. He was 17 at the time. After talking to him, I knew he was very depressed and things were getting serious with him. Never once did he ever threaten to do this so we had no warning. My ex-wife and I talked on the phone and she asked me if he could come out with us on the west coast. I readily agreed and was looking forward to it. I thought he was also from the last time we talked. I sent him the plane ticket and some pocket money but he said he needed just a few more days to get everything worked out. I didn't question him on this because at 17, there are things to work out when your leaving a part of the country you've grown up in. My wife and I had divorced when he was 6. I was a contractor and he was going to work for me and making over $20.00 an hour compared to making $4.00 an hour back there. I thought he was thrilled by the opportunity. I can now see where this might have put undo pressure on him to perform something he knew nothing about. I had explained to him though that he would be an electrician and we would start him in the material shack hauling material to the different crews. He couldn't believe he would be making this kind of money and seemed to actually be enthused about the whole thing. The next thing I knew was a phone call from my daughter telling me he stuck a 22 in his mouth and pulled the trigger during an argument with her and her husband. What actually happened there I don't know and I don't suppose I'll ever know? Whether he was week or strong, I'll never know. He was deeply depressed.

Usually people who commit suicide, or those who attempt it, have been giving signals of depression or other major cataclysmic events in their lives, for a very long time.
Their friends and family fail to pick up these signs because they don't realise how desperate the situation is. No-one wants to think that their friend or family member could ever carry through with action.
That is why there is so much guilt after a suicide or anger after an attempt.

People who commit suicide or are thinking about commiting suicide are usually suffering from depression and/or some other chemical brain imbalance. It's a medical problem and they should seek medical advice asap if they are considering suicide. There is a crisis hotline that people can call and talk to someone without revealing their name. If anyone is in danger of commiting suicide they should call 911 immediately and get checked into a hospital for help. To answer your question, it's not a matter of being weak or being strong, but rather of having a medical problem that needs to be addressed by professional help. If you know of someone who committed suicide, don't judge them because they are people who were perhaps depressed and needed medical help. If you or someone you know is thinking of commiting suicide, please get professional help or call 911.

Hi,
I had myself tried to commit suicide not once but twice in my life, I don't agree with words like coward or weak or brave or anything else like that.
The real feeling at that time is a kind of "wrong decision" or "hasty decision" that comes up to our mind at that particular moment. That is the reason behind committing suicide.
If any body about to commit suicide surpasses that few seconds he will never commit suicide again.
What I had learned from my experience is: suicide is not a coward act nor a brave one, it is a hasty decision made in a situation when we start thinking by heart rather than mind.
As a personal advice a word for people who are have intentions to commit suicide:
"Life is like a crime novel, you never know what is going to happen next, just wait for tomorrow's surprise ... remember ....
it might be your day!"

Suicide is an act of the desperate (or plain crazy). They see it as a better solution than facing what ever it was in their life that brought them to that point in the first place. I think thats kinda where they get the whole weak thing, because it takes a lot of strenght to stand up to what we are afraid of. Then again some people's heads don't work right...i knew a guy who committed suicide for no good reason...well actualyl he was upset that the chruch spent 14 million in renovations...but the underlying cause was mental instability.

The truth is cowardice. Weak in the sense that you are unable to face life. Strong in the mad desire to end life.

When one is not able to face the truth of his / her life, the frustration, the problems and many more other difficulties, he / she doesn't find any way other then suicide.
No one will happily end their life. Its just the unsucessfullness of their lifes which make them to do such type of things.

when u stop thinking positive then the thoughts of sucide come in ur mind.
its actually escaping from the situation, which is not bearable (from suicider point of view).
its bad in all sense. first of all, we r unthankful to our creator if we doing this act, that HE given us this life and bestow countless blessing on us.
we have given this life to praise our Creator......
may Allah (God) guide us towards the right path, ameen.

suicide is a way out. not a very good one i would say. but it depends on the person. sometimes it may be a solution. of course adults should be treated as responsible about what they do with their lives. sometimes it takes more strength not to kill oneself...
