The closet was scarier then, but that's because I had a waterbed so there really wasn't an "under the bed" for monsters to hide...

This question reminds me of a great memory :-P - one of my best guy friends is a homosexual and we were talking about our childhood fears one day and I asked him the SAME EXACT question. His reply: coming OUT of the closet. LOL! okay it really doesn't seem that funny writing it down here but I swear- if you were there and heard the way he said it- you would've laughed nonstop for like an hour. It was great.
But anyhow :-) For me, under the bed. Just stepping down from the bed actually...I was always really paranoid about someone grabbing me from the ankles and pulling me under the bed. I had this routine for the longest time where I would wake up and then leap from the bed to like the middle of my bedroom floor.

The bed. I used to think that the monster under the bed was a guy getting home from work and I had to be real still in bed so as not to disturb him as he was trying to relax or he would come out and get me.

It was the closet, before I had a nightlight, it always felt like something was going to come out of that absolute darkness. But that was when I was a kid.
