in two words: UNLIMITED GREENS! I believe that people go to Olive Garden looking for a large amount of food yet not in a buffet style. There used to be a never-ending pasta bowl which has an obvious appeal. The restaurant still serves unlimited salad and bread sticks. The latter of which are quite delicious. The pasta doesn't do anything for me, but after three bowls of salad and some bread sticks, the pasta is just a bonus.

I love the Olive Garden because I love Italian food, but most importantly, pasta. Olive Garden makes unbelievably good pasta. My boyfriend of 8 years hates the Olive Garden and it's cause he really doesn't like pasta. The only thing he was able to order was chicken or veal parmesean which he really didn't care for.

It's a corporate chain where all the sheeple can fill their bellies nice and taut like a drum and not pay through the nose (oh, and leave a crappy or no tip for the server, depending on the individual location and the type of local clientele).
If you want really good Italian food, it's best to look in the phone book for locally owned ristorantes or get recommendations from friends or co-workers.

Olive Garden does not make Italian food, or good pasta. Olive Garden is the exact opposite of what good food is.

The same reason people have a fascination with McDonald's even though there are much better burger places out there.

Beats me, I guess maybe it's that all lettuce salad with one very tiny thinly sliced tomato. The few times I have tried it have been disappointing. I guess maybe the smaller portions on those big plates

The salad and breadsticks. And the food tastes the same every time at any one you go to (not great, but not terrible).
