The first party I've ever been to, almost everyone smoked and drank. I never knew so many students in high school actually did. I got offered a drink and smoke several times (a guy actually offered to pay for my drink). Even though I felt the peer pressure on me, I never gave in. (I'm just different, I guess) Why are people so nice about sharing cigarettes and alcohol? They're almost too generous...

'cause misery loves company, even if the miserable aren't aware that they're miserable in the first place

I think the real question you should be asking yourself is... Why does drinking or smoking make someone a bad person? Neither is illegal so having these habits doesn't make them a criminal & if they are kind enough to offer them to you, then it could probably be argued that they are generally a nice person, as opposed to a bad one.

I smoke & drink, but I don't think that makes me a bad person at all. I don't beat my wife or my dog, I work 2 full time jobs, keep my bills paid, obey traffic laws, I've never been arrested and I even help an elderly neighbor take out her trash every week. But I'm still a bad person because I smoke cigarettes or have a few beers on the weekends?

Because smoking & drinking is done usually as a social thing. Even when you dont know the person, you have something in common already.
Besides, it doesn't cost much to give away a cigarette. You get 25 in a packet. As for alcohol, whats 20ml's worth to you in a mixer or 1 beer out of a carton of 24.
I think it's great people share. It prooves teh worlds not such a bad place after all.

Thats how it is and thats why people fall a prey to these vices and will struggle whole through their life to come out of it. You know way back in my village (as told by my grandfather) a man came with snuff to the village and freely distributed the snuff to my grandfather (he was 14 yrs) and many young people in the village for a month and then he said that the stock is over with him and he has to go to town and purchase it and took money from them and gave them the snuff and you know what happened more than 100 people became his customers and my grandfather used snuff till his death at 90 years.

Probably the same reason a drug dealer will let you get drugs with a promise to pay later, but he will not give you a piece of bread if you were hungry

They must think it's okay to promote suicide. They made the bad choice of resorting to health risks and want to influence others to do the same. Good for you that you stayed true to yourself.

I think they just wont you to be like them they do not like you to be different at the worst you could sugest they wont you to get drunk or hooked on cigerets and make afool of yourself. at the best they just wont to to blend in not apear an outsider. but we are all different and it is out choices in this life that will determin our future.

just bc people smoke and drink does not mean they are bad people....but those things are fairly cheap and they just want people to "loosen up" and have fun....now you wont see people so generous with heroin or crack bc that is expensive....anyways your good for not giving in.....high school kids just want everyone to join in
