I'm me take it or leave. I can behave better than I usually do if I have to. But that's just another side to my personality. Depends on the rules of the game. Because life is a game and first impressions are part of that game. The trick is to figure out the rules and use their own rules to beat the turkeys at there own game. I consider clothes just a part of that game. A part I call role camouflage. I am just as comfortable in a 3 piece suit or tuxedo, if I am going to the theater or the opera, as I am in leather pants and shirt, if I am going to one my special clubs that has a strict "leather only" dress code. Doesn't matter where I am at, I'm still me having a good time. If a person don't like me then kiss my a*s and leave me alone then.

I do like to make a good first impression which means no greens in the teeth, no spots on the shirt, and the fly is up.

Openness. Let the person feel that you are interested in them, without asking a lot of questions. Let them open themselves to you, a small prompt can be all that is needed. Are they well dressed? Then they will enjoy talking about clothes and shopping. Do they have good/different shoes? They will enjoy talking about shoes. Are they obviously a gym buff? Is their hair sytle trendy? These small openings make an immediate rapport and before you know it you have made a friend. Your interest in them will lead to their interest in you. It can also stop you making a 'foot in the mouth' statement before you know anything about them. You will also find out if they are a bore and save yourself time and effort finding out that you would not want to initiate a friendship.

That you are on time, neat, well groomed. You can be brilliant, but the company's first impression, or a new friend will be based on that first look at you.

A very good first impression to make while on the internet is not to use all caps in your messages. It's like shouting in someone's face.
Just a hint.
