Sweetie, you are thinking ahead. You are reaching the all important stage in your life, 'woman hood'.

To avoid being caught embarassed, carry pads in your purse at all times. There will be slight stomach cramp. Then there will be a slight discharge of blood (do not panick, it is normal).

Wear the pad for about a couple of days and the period will stop. Just make a mental note as to when it started. The next period may be in about a month but the first few periods will not be regular like once a month.

After a year or two, your periods will be quite regular like 28 days is about normal.

After some time, you may want to consider using tampons if you are active in sports, swimming etc...

When I started my period for the first time at 13 I had no idea about what the first date of my period was. All I remember was that it started at nite time while I was trying to sleep and like some of the others said I got a bit sick to my stomach and had some cramping. I still get cramping issues when I have my periods.

When I have to go out I keep pads on me in my purse so that I can change when I'm out.

If my panties do stain from the spotting I make sure to soak them in cold water for a bit and then if I am in the shower at the same time that they are soaking I take and wash the panty out right there and let it hang in the shower.

For cramps if they get to be a bit much I like a heating pad or a hot water bottle.

As some of the others said it will take a bit of time for them to regulate themselves. It took me about 3 years for them to fully regulate to a normal 28 day schedule.

I also kept track of every period and the symptoms b/c when I got older I started to have more problems with my period as it turned out due to a couple of medical conditions I have.

But as the others said it's a good idea to keep track so that you can see what your patterns look like in general.

Keep a good pad, one with extra absorbence, like an over night, with you. First periods can be pretty messy. Always have some small dark chocolate with you. Dark chocolate is better for you. Try to take some multi-vitamins with iron in them, and make sure you're eating healthy, along with genetics, your habits now can directly influence your period. Carry tylenol, or advil with you. Also go to the store and by some of those muscle insta hot pads. If you have cramps, you can just go to a bathroom, pull out a small muscle pad, unwrap it and stick it to the inside of your shirt, it's invisible, and will ease the pain. It worked wonders for me. As gross as this is going to sound, and I'm sure SOMEONE will want to report this. I'll say it anyway. Trim the hairs. It's alot easier to maintain, and keep clean, if the pubic hair is shorter, or not there if that's what floats your boat. I'm not uncomfortable with that because I HAD to do that for dance because we weren't allowed to were undies under the leotards (yes I know, that's a little weird). But it's alot easier to not stain your underwear if you can keep it cleaner. Also, once you've started, keep a set of clothes that are baggier, and more comfortable, for bloating.
Try to start drinking more water now, if you don't already. Your goal should be to slowly wean yourself up to 8 glasses of 8oz of water. That helps with water retention, also avoide soda, caffine, and anything salty. It's smart of you to be asking how to be prepared. I was 12 when I started and I was SO not prepared. I didn't even think I would start that year. There was so much blood, and it smelled, and was so dark, I thought I had pooped. I was so embarassed. I didn't know what to do. I don't know why it didn't sink in that it was my period. I was also emotional that night. So I suggest you have some emotional uplifters handy. A funny book. Or a comedy CD.
Best of Luck
As my mother so embarassingly put it with me "Welcome to womanhood" xD I of course screamed and cried and locked myself in my room, she happened to say it in front of my dad.

always have tampons or pads on you
you might bleed heavy or light
you can buy at the store (atleast with tampons) one box with 3 differant types (light, regular, super)
figure out wich one works best for you when you start your period

also you might get moody or depressed a little bit before your period
so try and notice what your body is doing over time so you can help yourself understand why you might be getting so mad over little things

also get ready for these thing- they might happen they might not
your boobs might get swollen or sore a week or so before your period- just wear a comfy bra!

cramps when your on your period- or maybe even a little before- you might get then just a little, or like me you might get them so bad, you puke and cant move. hopefully not but if you do. for your first time, dont take any pain meds, unless they get really painful, just so you can see if you get them really bad or not, so then know if you need to prepare by carrying tylonal around with you

what to do if you have bad cramps is as soon as you feel them coming on take 3 i b profin (not sure how to spell it) they work the best. then(if you start early in the day) take 3 more before you go to sleep, then if you still have them in the morning take 3 more. if that doesnt cause the pain to stop you should go to your doctor for something.

also remember they date you started your period and how long you were on it for
its good to keep track so if you choose to have sex
you know when your suposted to get it, just incase of a problem with that stuff

also its just good to know
you might not be on a reg scedual for a while (up to 2 year)
or you might be regular from day one and get it on same day every month
you can also skip a month or 2 at a time
nothing to worry about
unless your having sex

you will feel wierd for the first few times but after a while it we become nothing. i started when i was 11 and im 17
and it goes by so quick now!

good luck!

the parable is that steroids will develop a man or woman's opportunities at fulfillment at actual endeavors alongside with attempting to alter right into a expert athlete and could no longer reason severe issues until plenty later in existence, if in any respect. Steroid abuse is d a m n risky, and in case you do take so silly a step, i'm hoping you're found out and put in detention center for new child abuse, provided that's precisely what it may be.

Bring some sanitary pads (a couple for heavy flow and a couple for light flow) and extra undies in your schoolbag or pocket book. You might want to bring an extra pair of jeans or something, too. (put 'em in your locker or whatever). Bring Advil or Tylenol (under the supervision of your parents or school nurse) for cramps. AND, I would avoid wearing white bottoms or short skirts if you start to notice a crampy feeling, or you're very tired or cranky. How do you know your period will start "soon"? I got mine at 14.

Frankly you don't really know when your first day of your period is. (at least not for the very first time, i know i didn't know.) You may start feeling sick. (I'm just telling you this from my personal experience.) But just to be sure carry pads were ever you go and some Advil.

Best of luck.

just always keep tampons, pads, and a change of undies handy. you never can tell when you will get it (aside from the cramps, irritability and bloating) but is not like there is a certain age or something. i got mine when i was 16. Dont worry if it takes a few years before you get it. it means your lucky-you will know why after the first one

It's really not that big of a deal. Carry some pads with you. they will prob be easier to use than tampons. often the 1st one is light so don't worry too much about that.
don't be always worried about it though coz it might not happen for a few years.
for period pain naprogesic is realy good as is alieve.
