Absolutely! It's a form of advertising. The participants of Yahoo! Answers are being constantly exposed/reminded of the movie, and will remember to go see it, which obviously increases ticket sales for the movie. So, it's a "win-win-win" situation:

1. The movie gets advertised throughout the whole Yahoo! Answers network, which I'm sure reaches out to thousands and thousands of people. The more exposure, the more ticket sales. So, other movies will be apt to follow suit.

2. Yahoo! Answers gets paid to run the various
ads/movie clips.

3. The Yahoo! Answers participants will appreciate the reminders whenever a new movie starts.

... and the cycle continues on and on ... successfully!

They will make money per click on the ad, but otherwise it doesn't appear to be so. The film is being distributed by New Line Cinema, which is owned by Time-Warner. Yahoo is not owned by anybody, they are publicly traded as YHOO

Very much so, and looks like they are doing their job well since we all have noticed the ad. I doubt I'd have ever heard about it except for YA. Hope its a good movie.

Considering the prominence of the noise being made about it, it is quite likely that Yahoo was slipped more than a few bucks to flog it.
