For example:
If someone was born today [February 12, 2007], what Chinese Zodiac animal would they be?
The Chinese Zodiac, when looked at from a Gregorian calendar perspective, is usually represented by one animal per Gregorian year.

I suppose the real question would be: Does the Gregorian Calendar or the Chinese Calendar dictate the Zodiac animal of a person.

So, would the person [born on February 12, 2007] be born on the year of the Dog or year of the Boar?

if someone was born on that date they would have been born within the year of the dog as the year of the boar has yet to start.
The Chinese calendar dictates this zodiac, the Gregorian calendar has all 12 zodiac signs within 1 calendar year.

Chinese New Year is the first new moon after the winter solstice...

So, by the Chinese calendar, your hypothetical person would be year of the dog...

BUT, in modern times, everything pretty much revolves around the Gregorian calendar... so, to make sense to all the modern Chinese New Year celebrators of today, your person would be a pig... or year of the boar, rather.
