U (pronounced as you) the phonetics symbols seems the same but they are sometimes heard differently.
O (pronounced as oh) the phonetic symbols are different and are not always heard the same.

yeah: U can be pronounced as uh, you, or ooh
and O can be pronounced as ah or oh
