First there was Brokeback Mountain. Hot on the heals of it's Oscar Buzz Brad Pitt comes out and says he wants a gay role to be his next project. Then the news about the new Adam Sandler project where 2 male firefighters get married, and now it's gay baseball players. The good folks over at Empire give us this: The Dreyfus Affair: A Love Story. The plot in question concerns a married baseball player who falls in love with a fellow player. When word of their romance gets out, scandal inevitably follows. This is not the first time the book has been through the Hollywood development mill, but now with Brokeback leading the way, it has a good chance of finally being made. Yup, gay is the new formula. Gay cowboys, firefighters and now baseball players. I guarantee you that within the next 3 months we'll hear about new movies being developed about gay professional wrestlers, gay plumbers, and gay (name the most traditionally "manly" profession you can think of). Yup... when studios smell "Oscars" they swarm like sharks around whatever the trend may be. Brad Pitt really wont suit this role what do u guys think?

I don't know if Pitt will fit the role or not. He is an actor. I pay him to entertain me. No, when studios smell money they swarm like sharks...not oscars...
But there are gay firemen and gay wrestlers and baseball players...we are everywhere...why shouldn't we be represented on screen?

There might be a lot of gay who would love to see BP in a gay role. But he isn't really my type. And I'm not surprised that he wants to do a gay role; he seems to be very much for gay rights. Didn't he say at one point that he wasn't going to marry Angelina until ALL people, including gays, could get married?

Anyway, I feel that Hollywood is doing it only based on the success of Brokeback mountain. As long as there is money involved, there will be success. Until the market becomes tired of this issue and moves on to something else.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Brad Pitt or Adam Sandler or any other straight Hollywood actor wanting to play a gay role in some movie. Brad Pitt is hot and I would definitely watch whatever movie it is. I think he will do just fine in this new role... he has the body and the personality, so he gets a thumbs up from me =)

I don't think he would suit the role either. I can't stand the guy and think he's a pompous moron so my opinion may be kind of biased. He just seems to think he's pretty special. I think you're right about the whole oscar thing though. Hollywood has found a new cash cow, watch out. I would love for them to portray a same sex relationship in a more everyday setting. You know what I mean? Just like the average romance rather than some epic far fetched kind of tale. The movie Imagine me & You did a good job of this. Have a nice night!!

They made a song and dance about the homo-eroticism inherent in Interview With A Vampire between him and Tom Cruise. I never recognised it and, while he has a fit body, I wonder how well he would perform it.

I'm with Da Ben Dan though, Gays should be represented in mainstream movies as more than just flaming ancillary characters. Just like bisexuals should be represented as more than just murderers whose preferred imstrument of death is an ice-pick (lol!).

For awhile, I thought "trans" would be "the new gay". This whole thing already happened with Philadelphia.

::rolls eyes:: this is soooo last decade!

I'd rather see a movie about gay baseball players as opposed to seeing one with flaming disco queens or femmy, circuit party boys. IMAO.
