I assume you are talking about only published novels.
Nora Roberts (aka J.D. Robb) is probably a good contender. She has had over 120 books on the NY Time Bestseller List- and that doesn't include books that didn't make it! There is also Alexander McCall Smith or Charles Whiting.
If you are not talking about contemporary authors then the most prolific author is Mary Faulkner with over 900 books. But she is South African so I'm not entirely sure if they were all in English.
Otherwise check out Lauren Paine who wrote more than 850 books (mostly westerns) using 70 pen names.

I agree with hermione, other than Noddy, she also wrote The secret seven and The famous five series. She also wrote loads of other books as well.
As for Barbara Cartland, I don't know how many books she's written, but I do know that she is the most translated author in the world.

I'd heard that Romance novelist Barbara Cartland has written the most novels. I could be wrong.

Don't know. James Michener wrote over 50 and some of them are thumping huge epics.
Stephen King, who is sometimes good but not worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as Michener, has killed a lot of trees.

Depends, what is your definition of novel. Although I think it might be H.G. Wells.
