5 months is a good time. They can see well into the uterus. When the baby gets bigger it's more sqiushed up and harder to see. It all depends on the babies position at the time of the ultrasound too.

Actually the babies sex organs develop during the 9th week according to my book "The Baby Center Essential Guide to Pregnancy and Birth" they are distinguisible as male or female during the 12-13th week. The most accurate time to tell the babies sex is around 20 weeks... but I am around 13-14 weeks pregnant now and have an ultrasound next week and my doctor informed me that on the machine they are using there is an excellent chance of seeing the sex of my child if it is positioned well.

Depending on the skill of the technician, quality of the ultrasound machine, and position of the baby, you should be able to see any time from 16-17 weeks onward, especially if it's a boy.

The routine fetal morphology ultrasound at 19-20 weeks should be able to give you a reliable result.

starting from 16 weeks ur baby has developed its sexual organs, while doctors continue to say it has to be 20 weeks or more before you can view ur babys sexual organs to the naked eye they are once again proved wrong (damn doctors), well i went to a place in my hometown in tulsa, ok where they preform ultra-sounds and they do not need no referrale from an ob gyn and they accept walk ins well i was about 17 weeks and 3 days and i called just to see what they would say and a ultrasound that finds ur baby sex cost 75 dollars plus $5 for take home video footage they told me i would be having a girl within 5 mins of being there they also told me that they had a women come in there in early of 2003 who had been trying to concieve for about 5 years and she finally had one in the oven...well she has just so happy that she had finally done it that she could not resist the idea of finding out what sex your baby was sooner that what the doctors tell you and they told me she was about 11 weeks preggers and she was having a boy i could not believe it !!! they said after she delivered she came and brought her lil baby BOY in there to see all of the ladies that worked at that office !!!!!!!!!!!! by the way they told me that i was having a gurl and a few months down the road i had a gurl....must i add that when i had an ultrasound preformed at my local clinic that sees pregnant women for low cost sonograms told me i was having a boy .......damn doctors i tell you.....so i would suggest going to your local phone book and seeing if you have any local companies that perform such duties .......

between 4 and 5 months. i am 4 months and the doctor couldn't see if its a boy or a girl, only because he had his cord passing from between his legs. if the cord wasn't there it would have been clear if its a girl or a boy.
good luck
