Personally i think he is the best wicket keeperbatsman that india has ever seen but certainly not the world. He is strong and a big hitter who uses his brain b4 trying to hit sixes unlike afridi.

But i think his performances are restricted inside india on his home soil.He is yet to prove his skill outside subcontinent.

So compare him with other wicket keeper batsmen in the world with sensible facts so that i'll choose the best answer for this queston.

I think Dhoni is good but he has a long way to go to even be compared to other good wicket keeper batsmen.
I think as a keeper he is not too good but he will learn. As a Batsman, hes certainly smarter than guys like afridi, but hes not a gilchrist nor a boucher yet. He should stick to the basics and he'll be remembered as a great someday.

It will be too early and totally unfair to compare Dhoni with Gilchrist, Sangakkra etc. as he is quite new and inexperienced
wicket keeper batsman as compared to Gilchrist, Sangakkara etc.

We had Syed Kirmani in our team before but they got not much chances before because he has to cross legends like Sunil Gavaskar, G. Viswanath, Vengsarkar, Kapil dev., They got lion share of each match. When his hands are soft he use to get flat stones to catch the ball. He is the only keeper started using gloves for catching the ball. I thought Kirmani is legend of cricket.

Perhaps Dhoni is playing well he got good chances once he was dropped in Bangladesh tour, Well his team mate V.Sehwag uplifted him in Srilanka's series other wise he too cross more barriers.

First.. Let me appreciate You! Hats off! Very good observation!
As u told he has to prove his ability in foreign soil.

But one importane thing I like about him is he is flexible player. ie., he's not always a hitter. In some matches for the situation he plays sensationally as a meatured palyer. For example in Rajkot ODI he hits only one four out of his 40+. Its a great thing comparing to his mentality.

One thing I dislike about him is his SHOTS. I don't know how to explain its not like a proffessional shots. But it turn into runs! In TAMIL we called it as "KAATTADI"

And to compare him with other WK batsmen, he's like Andy flower of Zimbabwe. He has to work very hard to compare with Gilli.

However he's best of all previous Indian Wks.

Lets WISH all the best to him for the WC.
