Personally, I'd have masculine colors in there based on your element for the child: earth or water.
Then, on one wall, have a painting of either the boat at sea w/a gull to the right of the vessal. Or, one w/the animals boarding the walk; as he grows, he might get a kick out of that.
Also: Home & Garden Network: excellent ideas; may even have a question forum; great shows tho' and an online site. If you have fast enough speed you might even be able to view some shows online.
They also have Design on A Dime; and other shows which help you work cheaply, beautifully, and w/what is in your own home!

Ive gone mostly with the john lennon theme but have a few items that are noahs ark...they blend well togeather because of the jungle animals such as giraffes that are usually in the arks depictions. Have fun decorating!

Noahs Ark is cute... When I was pregnant withmy son, we didn't know what we were having so we did a carebears theme.... I also like pooh.. For boy, i think blue camo is cute. You could also do trains, seeing as how every boy i know including my son became obsesses withThomas the train at 1 1/2 years old.... :)

How about using an overhead projector to trace & paint an awesome mural -- perhaps blue water on the lower part, and the boat & animals floating on the water? Ikea has some really neat and inexpensive stuff you can buy to decorate the room with as well.
