Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord .Open the computer case and make sure you have and open ide cable and put the pin on the harddrive on the proper setting either slave or cable select... mount the hard drive, plug in the ide cable red side goes to pin 1 on the hard drive and the power only plugs in one way. put cover back on then plug computer back in and turn on windows will auto detect the drive for you. please note always keep an hand on the metal frame of the computer to make sure you dont zap the computer with static electric.

OK. The hard drive you have windows on needs to be your master driver. On the other hard drive there should be a place for the ide plug and a four prog power plug there are some very small pin with a plactic jumper that link two pins together. OK. most of the time there is a map of how to set it to slave look at the circuit board right where the same pins connect to it. It might say slave there. remove the jumper and put it to where it is on the slave setting. OK. now find a ide cable inside your computer I use the one that is plug into the master if there isn't another plug in on it use the secordory plug that plugs into cd rom....Look at the plug there is a red line going down one side of it the is letting you know pin 1 is on that side. Plug the side with the red on it to were is it beside the power plug in the one that has 4 progs. And all that is left is mounting your hard drive...Good luck hope this helps.

It depends on a couple of things. There are a number of ways. In the olden days, it was done with a 2nd cable which controlled the 2nd drive for MFM drives Or ESDI drives. More recently, is is done with the IDE interface which allows 2 drives, a master and a slave per interface per channel, with 2 channels being allowed. Some motherboards can support 2 channels, which means 4 physical drives. So, assuming you have a motherboard which supports IDE, then it is simple, configure the first drive as MASTER (which it probably is) and the 2nd as SLAVE on the same channel, connected to the 2nd connector on the same cable. There is an alternative, called CABLE SELECT, used in high speed connections. The "cable select" cable usually has different colored connectors, black and grey. Black is usually MASTER with grey being SLAVE (even though the jumper which sets master and slave is still set to master on both since it is the cable connection which determines which is master and slave.) So, you have to make a choice, use the standard configuration of master and slave on one channel or use cable select based on the type of cable you have. The drive manufacturer will tell you whether to use the jumper or cable to determine how the 2nd drive will be treated in the system. Regardless, you will have to prepare the 2nd drive for use, It has to be partitioned and formatted before it will be seen as a valid 2nd drive to store files. There should have been some software included with the drive which will help you partition and format the drive for use. If not, then I could tell you the exact sequence of things to do, but are too complicated to include here.

Hook the other up.
They only go in one way...
