Is there a setting, or a program you can install, or a new sound card you can buy that will make my Hp dv5000 laptop louder? and please dont say "buy external speakers". any suggestions?

When it comes to laptops, either it comes with good built-in speakers or you have to go external. Creative makes a Audigy for notebooks, but to get it to work.....you need good external speakers. You can look at the link below to check out the Audigy 2 ZS.

The answer to your question is NO. if you go to the sound option and set the volume to highest, then that the loudest that the laptop is going to get. a sound card wont make a difference for the loudness. since you dont want me to say external speaker, i would recommend headphones.
