Veterans face budget increase, then big cuts?

Regardless of the party, or the President in office, our armed forces have never been paid a wage that might be called attractive. The medical coverage provided is a very nice perk, but most service members don't consider that benefit a part of their pay.

Considering the commitment involved the stress on them & their families a better pay package is long overdue. I spent 6 years serving myself, & was proud to have done so, but in my job I also saw what our government spends for parts, equipment, tools, etc.

Folks providing these materials are paid obscene amounts almost across the board, when in many cases comparable items, (like tools) could be acquired at a local hardware store for less than half of what we THE TAXPAYERS spend.

The aircraft we spend tens of millions on that become obsolete after a few years , so the defense department can buy newer "improved" models would amaze & anger people if they really considered the numbers.....

Defense is critical, but we could do it equally well AND pay our PEOPLE better at a lowwer cost.
