The irony in trying in asking for how to "find" one self is that most times when it happens, you weren't looking for anything at all. Like, I spent ninth/tenth grade trying to hastily grow up... And while I thought I had found myself (the smooth, "sensitive artist), I really hadn't, and it took a random moment in grade 11 reading 'The Great Gatsby' to realize things about myself that no one else knew.
In other words: Don't try to force finding yourself. It won't help you.
And popularity? Pssh. It really doesn't matter. Just be nice to people in your classes (compliment them--most people, especially girls, cannot resist that sort of ego booster), and eventually friends/people will flock to you, and it will be the right kind of people if you play your hands correctly.
Hang in there. Life gets better.

When someone wants popularity, sometimes they impersonate others to fit in. This comes off as weird and unnatural. It's always a very tough thing to just fix because this is such a natural occurance. I don't know if this is you, but it doesn't matter either way. If you want to find who you are, ask yourself this question, "what do i do repeatedly, now and in my past"? We are what we do repeatedly, and this will eventually guide you to your answer. I only now, at the age of 24, have truely found myself.

Do you want to be popular? Is that important to you?
I believe you are going through a common phase that will pass within time. You can only be happy and popular if you choose to be. Mind of matter.

being popular in middle school doesnt mean anything in high school. you shouldnt strive for popularity in highschool because in college or the job world it means nothing. you should look for a group of people who accept you for you and stick with them.

Well, if you don't fit in, you don't have to try to fit in. If you're quiet, unhappy, whatever, just be it. Just be whatever you want to be. I don't care what people tell me, but If I don't feel like I don't fit in the group, I don't even bother to try.
