well there's 3 different types of Hat Tricks in hockey
1) The Regular Hat Trick- is when 3 Goals in a game by a player individually, and few times 2 different players of same team in same game have done it, and other times 1 player on each team has done it.
2) The Natural Hat Trick- is when a player gets 3 Goals in a row with noone else scoring
&
3) The Gordie Howe Hat Trick- is when a player gets a Goal, an Assist and a 5 Minute Major for Fighting in same game.

A hat trick in hockey is when a player scores three goals in a game. Though there can also be a natural hat trick and the difference is that a natural hat trick is three goals in a row meaning no one on ure team or the opposing team scores inbetween. Know there is also a Gordie Howe hat trick and that is when a player gets a goal, assist, and is in a fight. Those are three different versions of the 'hat trick' in hockey.

It is about equivalent to getting on base every time a single player batted during the game. That does not mean the person won the game with his or her effort, but it means that this feat is not a common deat in a day in the life of a baseball player. It is not easy to get on base, and often it is impossible.
In hockey where even a great player can get shutout offensively for week in a row. So scoring three goals is a big game for that player and his or her team.
It is about the same value to the team comparing a hat-trick to a baseball player that gets on base every time at bat. But in baseball it is more individual because it is pitcher against hitter. And in hockey, a hat trick can mean some great team play. Good question.

its when a player scores 3 goals in a single game (not including shoot out goals as they do not count towards their stats). However, if a player manages to score 3 consecutive goals, that is called a "natural hat trick". there also various other "hat tricks" in hockey that don't necessarily mean scoring goals. Such as a "Gordie Howe Hat-trick" which is a goal , assist, and a penalty. or a "Mario Lemieux Hat-trick" which was radiation treatment, a goal, and an assist. But there is an ultimate hat trick which is actually 5 goals in game...5 goals of every possible way powerplay, shorthanded, even strength, penalty shot, and empty net (which is also done by Mario Lemieux)

It's when a player scores 3 goals in the same game. Other people consider it a hat trick when a player scores 3 goals in a row in the same game.

A Hat Trick is when you score 3 goals in one game.
The term natural hat trick refers to when a player scores three goals consecutively in a single game. The goals do not have to happen in the same period. Nobody on your own team or your opponent's team can score in between these 3 consecutive goals.

A "Hat Trick" is when a player scores 3 goals in one game. There is another called a "Natural Hat Trick" where a player scores 3 consecutive goals in one game. Ray Whitney of the Carolina Hurricanes was the last to do it and he scored his 3 goals in a span of 100 seconds. A "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" is an unofficial stat when a player scores a goal, has an assist, and gets into a fight in the same game.
