No. But their bullpen will kill them this season....it could be downright pathetic.

I don't think it's so much age as just a lack of talent. Could I make up a team with a higher average age that could handily win the NL west? Clearly. Can the Giants make a run? It seems unlikely. Their bullpen, hitting, and defense are all subpar. It's not that they're awful- but they weren't good enough to compete last year, and their only potential improvement is replacing Schmidt with Zito.

The big issue really is Bonds, who I suppose is a bit of an "age issue"- but it's not that he won't produce. It's just that he won't produce to the tune of 16 million dollars. 16 million even if he gets injured, more like 20 if he's healthy. For that kind of money, the Giants could have had Gagne, a replacement at left field (Delluci and Nixon in platoon maybe), and still had money left over to upgrade the hitting at 1B or 2B. Maybe the lineup is less impressive without Bonds there, but I assure you that is a team that could compete better. They just can't even assure a good spot in this weak division with what they have now.

The National League West is WIDE open. In theory, every team has a shot at winning the division. The biggest concern for me if I was a Giants fan would be the bullpen. Tim Worrell retired, and Armando Benitez is highly unreliable. The everyday line-up will benefit from the addtion of Dave Roberts at the top. He is a good runner who will create ample RBI opportunities. Omar Vizquel is also a man of mosdest speed. Barry Bonds is the wild card in the line up. With him, the Giants can score runs in bunches. Without him, the Giants will have to rely heavily on Randy Winn, Ryan Klesko, Todd Linden, Bengie Molina, and Lance Niekro to drive in runs. The starting pitching is by far their biggest strength. Sure, they overpaid Barry Zito, but how many teams have a legit ace in their rotation? Matt Cain will make everyone forget about Jason Schmidt. Russ Ortiz, Matt Morris, Brad Hennessy, and Noah Lowry only add to the depth of this staff. The Giants will make a run, but we have to wait and see if they are still standing at the finish line...

It's not that they're too old, they just don't have the pitching to contend with the Padres, Dodgers, and now the D-Backs, since the got Randy Johnson.

Zito isn't going to be enough, especially if he gets hurt which is likely.

My NL West Prediction:

Padres
Dodgers
D-Backs
Giants
Rockies

No they are not
They have a old but reliable lineup
The addition of Roberts sets the outfield with winn and bonds, and then one of our trusted backups. Then Dhuram seems he's gona have a season as long as he stays healthy, feliz at third and the one problem the Giants may face is 1st Base. Other wise with their well rounded pitching and catching core they seem to be in good shape for run at the championship as long as Boche can manage.

The only thing keeping them out of the bottom of the NL West is Barry Zito.

I think there pitching is young and moving in the right direction but they need to do something about getting a big bat. They built there team about Bonds this year and the money he brings in with his publicity. Next year they can start to rebuild once he retires.

Yes, they are too old to make a run in the NL, but NOT too old to make a run to the bathroom frequently due to male urinary symptom called BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). They'll experience symptoms such as going often, going urgently, weak stream and frequently waking up at night to go. That's quite a run in my book.

Luckily there's FLOMAX. It is approved to treat male urinary symptoms due to BPH. Only your doctor can tell if your symptoms are due to BPH.
