All right. I did recovery too. Thats the only way i can solve it. But this issue may happen again. Maybe it is just a bug or what... really dissapointed me too and i'm the first time to use Dell. They told me not to install any softwares which was released before Vista OS.

If this is a new computer, you have warranty. You should be calling the customer service centre for guidance on how to proceed. I had to call Compaq service the day I brought my new pc home, and they solved my problem in 1 minute. It took me 20 minutes to implement the fix, but it has been perfect since. I would not dream of taking a stranger's advice on a new machine under warranty.

Kevin, I received a new computer from dell on february 5. It's a Dimension E521 with vista basique and 512 mo ram. The first day I only configure a Admin account and a user account. I shut down. On february 6, I open the computer and I received this message : "Diskette Drive 0 seek failure". I have to press F1 to load windows. I call the service to dell, the person answer me don't know what is the problem. I found after that I have to disabled the floppy drive in bios because no floppy drive is installed (they talk abount that on dell site). I do it. After, I install avast and I shut down the computer. The day after I open the computer and I have the same message you received "missing operating system". I call the service again and the other person I spoke with makes me re-install windows because see don't see the os installed in the procedure. I do so and I lose all of my files. Since this day, I have received four time the same message, but now I only do the first option on recovery disk "repair windows start". (I'm french, I'm not sure what is the option in english), and it's ok after since the next reboot, and I don't lose my files when I proceed this way. So, for now, I'm very disapointed, I don't like the service I received from dell. Maybe we will received a better solution from Dell some day. How many persons have the same problem? Now, when I will call back Dell, if they said to me that the don't aware of this problem, it's bullshit. ALSO : Is it normal that I have a icon in the task bar saying that I have a periphic connected when it's not true??? The first guy I spoke with to Dell don't know.

Complain to Dell about the problem. Or just go to your local computer repair shop. I would recommend you to ring Dell and tell them the problem.

The poster above is right. Your computer is under warranty so you should be talking to Dell.
