Where is the EGR system or sensor on a 98 Mazda 626 4 cycle? And will this make the car idle low and most of the time die? Anybody know?

The egr valve on your motor is below the throttle body (almost out of sight). You would have to remove the air box & snorkel tube (big rubber elbow from the air box to the throttle body).
The egr is capable of making this conern happen. esp if it sticks & stays open longer than its supposed too.
But most of the time on your model & engine combo it is the intake air valve (basically an idle air circuit for air to bypass the throttle body & give it just enough air to idle or come down off rpm's above 1000 rpm). sometimes they just need a good cleaning. other time they need replaced.
Also, look for intake/ vaccum leaks. this can also cause a problem too.

EGR (exhaust gas recerculation valve) and yes it can do what you stated in your question. It should be located right along the intake plenum with a vacumm dish attachted to it. Most of the time rusty looking from all the heat. I hope this helps.
