Because they are socialists. In fact, liberals used to call themselves "socialists" until McCarthyism made that a bad word, and now they've made "liberal" a bad word so they call themselves "progressives." It's all the same thing: socialism. Many fall into the lie that socialism is compassionate, many others just feel jealous of those who have more and think that those people shouldn't be allowed the benefits of their wealth. It's a real problem. Not many people see it as socialism, even Schwarzenegger is proposing socialised medicine now (I'm from California), and he's supposed to be a Republican. Even many of Bush's policies for Iraq border on socialism (redistribution of land, equal sharing of oil profits to Iraqi people). For years our taxation has been socialistic. They tax the rich a far higher percentage of their income than they do the poor. Someone making $200,000 a year pays ruffly 50% in taxes, someone making $30,000 a year pays ruffly 15% in taxes. Then the people paying 15% in taxes have the audacity to get mad when the people paying 50% get a larger tax break. The whole idea of income tax is inherently socialistic in nature to begin with. Their mentality is one of greed and contempt for the rich. It is a very similar attitude to those in many countries, one perfect example is Russia immediately before a man named Lenin led a revolution to overthrow the Tsars, so that he could create a dictatorship of the proletariat (country ruled by the worker). Sound familiar? Many people would tell you that these socialistic ideas are good, and help the people. Don't fall into these lies. You see things for how they really are. Our nation is drifting rapidly toward socialism. Something needs to be done to preserve our American way of life.

well... I think some social programs are good...
there is no successful country in the world that has no social programs and is just pure capitalism... do you think that's an accident...
there are some things that don't seem to work for the betterment of the nation in a free market... like education, healthcare, military, roads and more... these things left up to the market often turn out disasterous for any nation...
our health care now is clearly failing for a growing number of our citizens, a number that is growing due to quick growing costs...
even Republicans support a military and road building most of the time... we just draw different lines on where we think the government should step in...

National Healthcare isn't really an issue of socialism, most of the advanced civilized countries have forms of universal health care. In fact it seems to be more a mark of progress than anything. In general Democrats are more in favor of policies that progress rights and quality of life of the average person, Republicans are essentially against changing from their "old-fashioned" ways.

So Congress made a mistake and did not comprehend it would cost more beneficial. So, what does that advise? Why is that a lie basically because they were incorrect about the quantity, and what does that advise besides? The Iraq conflict grow to be envisioned at as an get mutually, a million billion a month, and then it grew to grow to be a million.5 billion in line with month. no one accused them of mendacity. It grow to be a mistake and considering both those figures are in the stratosphere, the fairly cost doesnt fairly advise some thing to us.

You have to understand capitalism has some major drawbacks. Take the gas prices for instance. Everybody drives a car to get around in this country. Gas has become vary much in demand. If we let gas companies do what they want we could start paying 5,10,15 or 20 dollars a gallons. Why not every body needs it? You know that supply and demand concept. The whole economy will have a landslide affect if we let companies do what they want.
Some services do better from a socialistic point of view and health care is one of them. What we have discovered with 200 years of capitalism companies become machines that don't give a damn about people. When money becomes the only focus quality of life looses out.
We have been brain washed to think greed is good. It is only good if it’s going into your pockets. Companies are paying less and less for perks like health care to improve their bottom line. Pencil pushers are only looking at money not at the human cost of all their money centric decisions. We work longer hours than any other industrial nation and get less vacation all to support these monsters called multination conglomerates corporations.
Isn't interesting that corporations are considered entities? As if they are somehow living breathing just like human beings. Pure capitalism will be our downfall. We can call people names like commies all we want. America will rot from the inside and our government knows it. That is why we spend so much money sticking our noses in other countries affairs. We are trying to get other countries to run like us to justify our existence as being the only moral way of life.
We are going down hill because other countries are no longer playing our game and they want to put us down for good reason, we are dangerous and meddlesome. Sure we do a lot of good but you accept our help with a major price, loss of control of your government.

We, here in Canada have a socialist health care system. Every man, woman and child has coverage for almost everything for as little as 40.00 a month. My daughter just moved here from the states, and she still finds it unbelievable that she can go to her doctor and not pay anything. So, if this is the kind of health care system the Dems will institute, I say - more power to them.

Because they see the greater good of society as providing health and medical care to all members of society, not to just those that can afford to pay doctors who feel that they should be collecting money just because they can breathe. They KNOW that the health and medical professions are "HELPING professions" NOT "get-rich-quick professions" as some unscrupulous and crooked doctors (that overbill and overcharge insurance companies, and sell their souls to some pharmaceutical companies and only prescribe their pharmaceutical products so they can receive monetary incentives or free trips or free use of yatchs and free use of hotel suites... etc).
It is not a matter of Liberal vs Conservatives; it's a matter of progressive thinking, planning and doing for our citizenry! It is also called compassion. Many so-called Christians will go to church and holler and cry out to Him whom they called Messiah and to the Almighty and soon forget the teachings that started about 2,000 years ago...
Also, because they KNOW that a society is defined on how it treats it's poor, elderly, retired, disabled, infirmed and poor; the rest of the world is now seeing this as a necessary responsibility not an option that requires further debate (several hundred years is enough debating). They also KNOW that it is better for the population of this nation to take care of its citizens rather than let crooked politicians squander and mismanage or let their cronies profiteer! Healthy individuals are healthy workers that contribute to the general good of the nation and pay taxes to support our common needs as a society.
It never fails to surprise me how "caring" this nation can be toward foreigners but have no compassion whatsoever for our own, not even for our Vets that live in substandard homes or must do without food or medications... I am reminded of how some animals in the wild prey on the weakers ones... sharks, jackals, hienas... and how we abhor those who live off the misery of others but do nothing about it... we call them ghouls, sometimes... but what do we do for the less fortunate here in America? Why don't we hold our elected officials accountable for their promises while they live in such comfort at our expense and we don't care of the hundreds of billions of dollars that are squandered and mismanged... when it can be used to alleviate so much suffering and misery right here in America...! Where is the wisdom here, where is the compassion and care for our own fellow Americans?
Conservatives think that caring and compassion is a sign of weakness, while Liberals and progressive thinkers think it is a sign of stregth!

I don't know the extent of your political knowledge, but I will be simple, if possible. The Left (democrats) push for large government control with more taxes on the people but with wider socialist programs for more of the populis and much more personal freedoms. The Right (republicans) push for smaller gov and less taxing but more control of people and allowing economic status to make social classes, "the rich and poor" exist. Why they are this way is anyones guess.

Because they believe publicly that capitalism is bad and destructive, although none of them are poor. They believe everyone should have health care but the cost should be administered by the state or federal government because Americans spend outrage sums of money on Defense.

Democrats lean toward socialism, because it's the opposite of what Republicans lean toward.
Neither party is "good" and neither party has a good solution.
Do you like how Bush has positioned the U.S. over the past 6 years? Nobody in the world does, except ourselves. Seems like a "worse" solution than what we had before.
